Foot speed, is it technical skill or mostly natural?

    They say sprinters are born.
    Although a lot of good sprinters don't have super quick feet in the ring.

    AJ would annihilate fury in 100m, but Fury might dance around him in a ring

    Are fleet footed fighters more naturally blessed or are they made by training methods and practice?

    Eubank Jr was a decent sprinter too but has pretty slow feet in the ring. Probably has the fastest hands p4p in the sport too, if not just straight out fastest. But timing can beat speed as we know. On a training bag I have never seen faster. Even against Morrison today when he was stationary and Eubank unloaded it was blazing.

    Could Eubank have ever been fleet footed if he Started young and in the right system?

    Actually think Anatoly Lomachenko would be the greatest trainer for footwork. Looking at his fighters and how they move.

    It is trained with some people having natural advantages. Quick feet doesn't always mean good feet either. Being light on your toes is one thing, knowing where to put your feet is another.

    I think it's a natural skill that gets nurtured, everyone has it to some degree but some truly understand it and take it to the next level.

    Foot speed from point A to point B is natural and genetic though you can improve the speed with technique and training however what is more important is positioning of feet. Watch Mayweather vs southpaw Pacquiao for a master class.

    Foot speed in a race is a natural talent. But moving on your toes, to your side, lateral movement, is a technical skill.

    Foot speed is genetical gift.
    For usage in any sport, doesn't matters is this combat or not combat sport ( there are a lot not combat sports with very good purses including a lot of them with mandatory monthly salaries and bonuses 1 or 2 times each year plus extra opportunities to get more if you are damn good 1-2-3 years in row ) you need proper training and to be enough diligent and talented also to train properly.
    Does not matters is this basketball, soccer or ice hockey or weight lifting, boxing, MMA or swimming. Proper training and talent to absorb proper training and get benefits from this proper training is real core there.

    Runners too does learn a lot under guidance and this is not easy. Tennis, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, all kinds of athletes.

    its trained of course. you dont need to run fast to have quick food speed. look at canelo he use to be a plodder, he now has some of the quickest evasiveness in the game.

    Good Foot work is more important than foot speed in boxing. But if a boxer has both they're a nightmare to deal with.

    I am not the fastest sprinter, but have very fast feet in the ring and I can guarantee that it is 100% trained.

    Foot speed has nothing to do with sprinting speed.

    Foot speed for boxers, meaning light on your feet and able to adjust position quickly is analogous to dancing or being super skillful at football. You can't train this from zero, you're born with the basic ability to move your feet quickly.

    Sprint speed is all about power, it comes from your thighs and glutes, the limiting factor for running fast is not foot speed, it's the power you can generate. This can be trained

    I think its a skill man. You have to lrarn to put bounce in your step, it doesnt come natural

    I mean, there's foot speed, and there's footwork (skill). You need some measure of the latter as your foundation to not plop on your ass in a fight - but the former is a combination of what you're born with and some wiggle room to improve upon that with drills. But as with anything in athletics, there's going to be a hard upper limit per individual of how much they can stretch their natural gifts via technique & practice.
