Do you jump rope? Jogging? I don't know about your experience, but if your technique is correct you can just try to move faster while shadow boxing, sparring. On the heavybag you can punch a combination of punches, move around the bag, and then start on a new combination, etc. First you technique should be good. Edit: Also learn to throw combinations while moving backwards and forwards. Then you learn to control your feet, and when you manage that you can set the tempo higher.
Worked well for me. Very slow in the beginning, first straights only, and then gradually worked my way up to more complicated things. Throw a combination going backwards, then sidestep, etc.
Yep, the more combinations or things you learn while punching and moving, the higher you can set the tempo. michaelmcla; try to take command of the ring yourself. Take the center of the ring.
In addition to what has been said, dancing circles like Ali during shadow boxing might help, especially for lateral movement.
ne type of leg exercises. squats, lunges, calf raises. try just balancing exercises too. main thing is just to "stay on ur toes" when ur trying to make a fast movement
Foot speed, like hand speed, is limited by your genes. Some men are born to be fast, but most of us aren't. Through the diligent practise of traditional boxing training, you will achieve your full speed potential. However, it should be noted that "speed" can at times be an optical illusion. A case in point is a comparison of Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlik. If you review the video you will soon notice that Hopkins appears to be faster than Pavlik. Look a bit more closely and you will see that his apparent speed advantage was minimal. What Hopkins had was better boxing skills which created openings, angles and leverage. Hopkins was almost always in a better position than Pavlik because he was easily able to time him. Position and timing is much more important in boxing than speed. Learn to make the right moves, don't worry about your speed.
Skipping mixing up your rythems. running backwards, sideways, alternating. Kariokies. Rounds in the ring, moving in all directions, on your toes, not crossing you feet.
