wasn't that Greg Page?? I'm pretty sure it was him - pretty good shot really - makes me laugh all you can here is Tyson's crappy trainer just shouting BS like "there ya go!! there ya go!!" whether Tyson's doing anything right or not - just feeding his ego and then WHAM!! and as he's going over you can even hear him again going "there ya go!!"

He'd apparentely been down before in sparring. I don't know who did it, though.

Greg Page was a bit of a scourge of Tyson in sparring. He also busted him open causing the postponement/cancellation of another bout.

EB, I suspect you're referring to JohnThomas. Good ole JT hasn't been around here much lately, but there's still a subject or two that can flush him out and make his presence known.

Initially, laypeople in the sporting press jumped on the story right away, but before it had any chance to gain momentum, boxing savvy commentators promptly squelched it with the dismissal, "Yeah, but that's Greg Page!" Therefore, it was only in hindsight that this was realized as an omen.

According to Bill Cayton, it was Oliver McCall and Mike Williams.

Not rare footage, but shows you what Tyson became at that time. He gets knocked down and quits training for the day. Tyson looked pretty shitty there.

I wonder when he was knocked down by McCall and Williams, which is frankly more embarassing than being knocked down by Greg Page.

Page really was good at the highlight reel KOs, like Tyson. Boxers who combine speed and power always have the best looking knockouts: it's the hard punches that their opponents don't see coming.

Tyson had a pretty balls to the walls offense, Im sure he wasnt always focused and perfect in practice, so the chance of him getting dropped from time to time is probably pretty good. Tyson also didnt spar very much with headgear or face protection. His trainers felt it would keep him moving his head not to get hit.

I remember them showing this on the Buster Douglas PPV, like during or before the fight...god its been so many years.

I don't know, might be rare footage now.

Yup, that was Greg Page who dropped him. This took place shortly before the Douglas fight. There definitely was something wrong with Tyson going into that fight and the fact that Page was outboxing him, hitting him a lot, and dropped him, was a definite tip-off. You can see the look of concern in Don King's eyes.

Keep in mind that the 31-year-old Page was past his best at that point. A guy who had turned pro in early 1979. As of 1990, when this sparring took place, Page had losses to Berbick, Witherspoon, Bey, Tubbs, Buster Douglas, 5-5-1 Mark Wills, a 37-year-old Joe Bugner, and Orlin Norris. And this Page was beating Tyson.
