http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUdoGBkeqWQ#t=1m30s I apologize if someone else already posted this, but here's actual footage from one of Joe Jeanette's fights against Sam Langford. This is a highlight video showing Langford's skills compared to other fighters of the day and how he was ahead of time in some ways. For all I know, this is the only footage of Jeanette that exists of him as an active fighter. Correct me if I am wrong.
There is more footage of Jeanette. He can be seen mock sparring in the ring with Jack Johnson for W.W II bonds.
Thanks, that I have seen, and I know that it exists in color, too, and he was also 71 years of age. But I don't think I've ever seen actual prime Jeannette fight footage... for years, it seemed there was none until recently, at least that's what I heard. But thanks anyways!
Always great to watch these vintage films of the great fighters of old. Makes me wonder how they would do against later time greats. Wonder how Langford would fare against the likes of Ali, Holmes and Louis...Fighters with great jabs who used them consistenly during a bout. Would he be able to get inside enough? Or Langford vs Frazier or Marciano. The mouth waters at such matchups doesn't it?
