He also really wanted to pick his spots. Herrera attacked until he was driven off. He's like a hyena.
[yt]02f9uNioDxc[/yt] Super-featherweight strap-holder Marcano's only successful title defence is an impressive one, using an excellent jab to control the aggressive Iwata before dispatching him with a sustained two-fisted assault. The third and fourth are well worth a look, an unbalanced fighter being beaten around the ring, entirely unable to reclaim his equilibrium under savage attack.
[yt]cVPSdE_qIQM[/yt] Avelar's best performance? Great punching ability and aggression tracking down and just flat out overwhelming a great opponent. Really nice display. Anyone particularly impressed with Avelar here, or having a re-think in the light of this footage?
Definitely among them, though the Vasquez fight is truly epic. Lopez was never quite the same after the late stoppages against Espadas and had lost a few by this point, though he was still top fifteen quality. He served as a sort of gatekeeper to that level once he had lost his title. Not confident enough in his skills, durable or strong enough to beat most of the top fighters anymore, but still a tricky test especially if you couldn't punch.
I thought Lopez fought back extremely well after that first knockdown in the second. Ultimately he just didn't have the chin, though. A shame, as he was exceptionally skilled. What I wouldn't give to get my hands on his fight with a young Zapata. Sounds like a purist's dream.
Lopez had tiny T-rex arms too.Still, i think he might be the best fighter along with Kalule i've seen from recent decades, to have both little durabilty or power. Avelar was a steady workhorse. He claimed some good scalps with that powerpunching. You watched his fight with vazquez? it's awesome.
[yt]Iq9R4-Ylb5s[/yt] A dynamite counter left defines this crash-bang wallop affair between the nuclear powered Villasana and the just-to-fragile Downes. Downes looks pretty good for about 100 seconds, but his jittery style underlines Villasana's economic, poised advances backed by mostly disciplined punching. Villasana's luck is mad...some of the guys he rubbed up against...but he hung out and i like that. How do you boys rate Villasana for power at this weight? Do you think Downes could grab a belt right now? The stoppage?

[yt]XDo-Z7_rLgo[/yt] The quality of footage here isn't great, but this is an important fight for the division and it ties up the lose ends of some of the other fights we've seen in the thread already, plus it's an absolutely astonishing buzzsaw type performance of real excitement, so I felt it was worth uploading. Watching it again for the upload, I got the same feeling at the end of round one as I did the previously, why doesn't he move? Whatever the reason it's a treat for us and a painful lesson for him. Fair play to Ibarra for gathering it all back together for another successful tilt.
Kim is underrated. Not versatile, but really not someone you want to stand in front of is he, though he learned that about Avelar as well sadly. I like his punching style, some lovely short chopping punches. Could be an entertaining dark horse against the more well known south korean greats and other top Flyweights.
I think he's a bit lunging and I don't care for his left, but the Methabula performance gives the impression of a fighter who would be awkward for literally anyone. I can't give him less than six rounds in that fight. Now, here, you have him breaking down in super-fast time a fighter that trades on his mobility and boxing. I'd agree with you, overall.
My line of thinking is the same as yours, McGrain. Ibarra seemed to have all the talent, but not the smarts. It looked as if he wanted to rely on his skills against the ropes initially, then he got stung and couldn't really do much about it. Except, you know, clinch and move, neither of which he even attempted. Terrible performance from him, but a great one from Kim, who just mowed him down with a non-stop barrage.
For your hard work here McGrain, i think you've earned this worthy gift: A David Kipiani background:good... This content is protected
