My coach told when you're moving forward drag your back foot, when you're moving backward, drag your front foot, when you're moving to your right drag your front foot, when you're moving left drag your back foot. Since hes told me this its really helped my footwork. Is that what your coach tells you to do?
my coac never really sat down and told me footwork i just kinda picked up and he told me little things to improve it im normally on my toes so i dont really drag my feet i kinda bounce in
My coach told me specifically NOT to drag my back foot. He's trained five world champions, so I listen to him...
Eh, idk. Depends on the coach. My coach said to push off your back foot when you're moving foward. As in toes toes, not toes and drag
Footwork is the most important thing in boxing, i do MMA but i watch boxing specifically to watch boxers footwork. When I work on a bag i try and think of how my feet generate power.
Exactly what you're suppose to do. Be sure to pivot and step into your punches. No offense but I notice that alot of mma fighters are very sloppy with striking
my coach taught me not so much to drag it on the mat but to always have contact with the mat. I feel like dragging can make your footwork not fluent but if you have contact with the mat at all times you can still punch at any time.
Depends on the cirumstances - some people say always step into every punch. What happens when you are backing up or moving laterals and punching ie jabbing to keep a swarmer off balance? You don't want to be stepping into it because you are playing right into a swarmers hands by doing so. What if you are a pressure fighter though, and you are fighting someone who is fleet of foot and possesses a good jab? Clearly, the half step and drag isn't going to get you very far in this scenario. Your footwork needs to adapt to the demands of the fight. A good fighter can switch things up, and utilise various forms of footwork to enable him/her to dictate the range that they wish to fight at.
the main thing your trying to do is to set your feet quickly. my coach tells me to take quick short steps and not to take to many. i am taller and jab alot and work on the outside so that may just apply to my type of style I don't know.
If you want to see some really good footwork watch gatti. he is really good at setting his feet quickly.
