Isn't that crazy, for what it costs them to pay Mayweather ($32M), Showtime could instead put together 10 or 15 cards per year of the quality of Mattyhsse/Peterson.

If they were to pay $2M a piece to guys like, Matthyse, Petterson, Garcia, Broner, Rios, Khan, Alvarado, Provodnikov, Malignaggi, Alexander, Guerrero, Ortiz, Thurman, Abrgu to have sort of an unofficial tournament in a single year, don't you guys think that would be worth more than to have one Mayweather fight?

    I think so.

Showtime's money comes thru their subscribers, at the end of the day that is their end goal of the entire network, to get more subscribers and have that monthly guarantee income.

You really think that a PPV fight once a year (bought by only boxing fans) as boring as Guerrero/Floyd is going to get them tons of subscribers? Over say, a bunch of possible wars (based on styles) between those names that I mentioned that will be showed on their normal non PPV packages?

i would say the payoff comes out about even, except with floyd they get paid in one fight... except for his last fight which lost money for showtime.

Most of Mayweathers Money comes from what I said.

say the fight did 900,000 buys you times that by the price and take out half for cable operators 900,000 x 65 /2= $29,250,000

The gate for the fight was 9 mil
Sponsors prob another 2 to 3 mil
    international feed another few mil

    Floyd pays for himself

Listen, they invest $32M in Floyd because they will make it back in revnue from the PPV and hopefully break even or keep some extra.

I'm saying, invest the $32M in putting together 10 or 15 fights a year with quality opponents, which will lead to a huge bump in your subscribers which will lead to revnue just like it would with a Floyd PPV.

Now, you may say why can't they do both, but how willing they are to taking that big of a risk, is the question here.

There is no way that Showtime made a profit with 870K buys if they paid Floyd $32 million, Guerrero $2 million, the undercard fighters, personnel, etc. Showtime is going to take a loss on their contract with FMJ, especially since I think only a fight with Canelo will clear 1 million buys.

The profits they get from PPV helps pay for other content on their network like original series, documentaries, etc.

Listen I'm not arguing the way PPV works, I'm arguing the way this 6 fight PPV deal Showtime has with Mayweather does.

I think they could have invested better in their hopes to overthrown HBO as the best Boxing network and gain general subscribers.

Lets not forget that the reason Floyd walked HBO is because they did not agree to the deal that Showtime did. They didn't agree to that deal for a reason, because if it was a gurantee money, HBO would have happly agreed to Floyd's demand. But they didn't for a reason, Showtime did and think they will regret it if all these rumors about the numbers are truth.

we can deduce d rafael's numbers.

    .875mil x 60= 52.5mil

standard share for local distributors is about half which leaves 26.125mil.

showtime pays floyd his 32mil which leaves showtime with

we don't know how much showtime spent on promotions and production or if showtime will gets a share of ad sales, closed circuit money, theater tickets, gate receipts and international tv rights to show the fight.
