I’m always astonished by GGGs defense when I rewatch his fights carefully, many shots that look like they landed clean live were parried by GGG, it was the same story in the 2nd Canelo fight which I scored 117-111 to GGG, he blocked so much of Canelos work. I’ll be honest I thought he did get hit a lot more than he actually was in the SD fight
If you scored the rematch 117-111 I’m afraid your scorecards must be taken with a big pinch of sodium.
I've definitely noticed that some fighters use their arms and gloves to block their opponent's punches. I'm not saying I agree with it or that I would use my arms and gloves to block the punches of opponents of mine. But it's definitely a thing and to deny that it is would be very disingenuous IMO.
I heard about the big robbery on my phone and watched the fight when I got home. Have no idea wtf people were talking about because I saw GGG win the fight. Chenko had a lot of his shots blocked, bounce off shoulders and simply miss. I even heard someone say if GGG didnt have a granite chin he would've been knocked out. The hate is real. 115-112 GGG
I like the Mayweather comparison. Not obvious, but very apt. Golovkin doesn't look like he's dominating the way he used to, but he still ends up sneaking in all the best shots in a round and parrying or slipping most of the opponent's blows till you realise that he's quietly pitched out a fairly comprehensive win. Trouble is, unlike Mayweather, Golovkin's lean forward high gloves style often makes it look like he's getting lit up, and it's only in slow mo that you see how little is actually getting through. I didn't see this robbery that so many were seeing last night, and while Golovkin didn't put on his best performance, he was fighting a very game opponent who had given several top fighters in the past similar problems. Every top fighter has had their fair share of struggles against less than heralded foes; it's the nature of the game, and not something that should be a cause for concern unless it becomes a recurring pattern.
Am i the only one believing he didn't really go all out on Devy ? He had his mind set on decision from the start, not on stoppage. But he looked bad doing so, because his real style has always been of a fighter, not a boxer, and Devy refused to back down and was pressing all night.
As I said in the RBR, I really felt not much of SD was actually getting through past the 7th round. Golovkin getting backed up, just blocking shots and getting bullied around the ring obviously was a terrible look, but as far as meaningful damage went, SD wasn’t landing near as much as it appeared, and just a casual glance at their faces at the end is a pretty good indicator of who truly was dealing the damage
GGG defense is incredible. The art of parrieing and blocking punches is just incredible. It is clear to see that ggg won the fight and it looked like he was getting backed up and hit but in reality he blocked almost all of his punches and was extremely accurate against devry. GGG is an atg and we should appreciate him as long as he gives as fights
Chenko landed more power shots on Golovkin than he did on Danny Jacobs. Perhaps you should watch the actual fight instead of 5 mins of cherry picked footage.
Dino, with Rozier in SDs corner it would have been different don’t you think? Rozier knew all weak and strong points of SD and was preparing Jacobs for that so no wonder. In regards of “5 mins of cherry picked footage”, it was mostly the whole fight. 10th round that a lot of people gave as a solid round to SD doesn’t look that dominant in slow motion.
Theatricality and deception ; powerful agents to the uninitiated 15mins of slowed down footage amounts to about 5% of the "whole" fight. Somebody could easily take all the moments Chenko had and slow them down to last 20mins.
