Why not? He certainly ranks higher than Mayweather. And no, no way in hell he is even top 6 if he clears up the division. No way he ranks above these guys: Robinson Greb Ali Langford Charles Armstrong After that, if he cleans up impressively and beats a Middleweight belt holder or someone like Spinks, we can talk about how high he places after those guys. Still some very stiff competition.
Are you nit picking? Look at all the other guys he did face. Anyway, Mayweather will have to do what Duran did i.e go up to MW but Mayweather will have to beat the title holder since Hagler is no longer around or beat Hopkins. After this beat the SMW title holder then he will be a top 10 maybe even top 3.
If he beats Cotto and retires undefeated, he cracks the top 20. To crack the top 10 he'd have to also beat Pavlik. He's beaten the biggest threats at 130 & 135, defeated the best 140 pounder in Hatton, and beaten DeLaHoya, arguably the best 154 pounder. However, he has yet to beat the biggest threat at 147, Cotto.
You've got to realise that these other TOP 10 ATG's didn't clean out one division, but many. Robinson is the perfect example, so is Armstrong (after winning tour de france)
Lets cut out all the bull---- for me go up to 160 and beat Pavlik hell Duran did it with Iran Barkley. PBF does that he cracks the top ten. Thats tough, damn rights its tough so is the top 10....
For floyd to even be considerd top 10 atg he has too... . . . learn how shut his mouth and show some respect to the sports and not just money. :yep
Floyd isnt done. He is not retiring at all. And if the big names at 147 and 154 keep winning, he will fight them and win. And you never know --- we might even see him at 160. Taking time off is healthy and smart. The guys in tremendous shape and take care of himself and he is still young. When he fights againt, it will be like he was never gone.
Floyd Mayweather is one of the few great fighters left who has it both offensively and defensively. Floyd is and would be a great fighter in any era. He does not have to beat Margo or Cintron to prove that. When and if he faces Cotto and beats him his legacy should be cemented.
Yeah right . . . when will that be ? About 5 to 8 fights from now . . . when Cotto already lost a fight . . . and all bruised up? That's gonna be an excuse for Floyd not to fight him anymore just like what happened to Margarito. :rofl
Why does what Floyd does at 147 mean so damn much? People seem to have forgotten that Floyd started his career at 130, and even defended his titles in that division several times before moving to 135. Floyd not fighting Cotto is NOT like Leonard not fighting Hearns. It would be like Leonard winning the super middleweight title in the late 80s, and not fighting top contenders in THAT division. People seem to forget that Floyd first became a legit champion when he was VERY young. It was in 1998, when he was 21 years old! If Floyd had stayed at 130 and fought greats like Morales, Barrera, Pacquia, and Marquez - would people even care what he's done at 135-154 since then?
