...should they make the ring considerably smaller? Now, a lot of people are going to respond by saying Floyd is like this, but Floyd fights. Floyd does take risks. Floyd is entertaining and he will try to KO his opponents. But damn, Rigo and Lara go to fights and make their opponents force the action every time. It's kind of pathetic. Because if their opponent didn't fight, there would be NO fight. They are the worst types of fighters. Guys from the past...Whitaker for example, threw a lot of punches. He would actually try and win the fight and be entertaining. Pep would switch it up, and the rules of the past would allow opponents to be more rough with cute fighters. Watch Pep vs Saddler, Saddler does things that would EASILY get him disqualified in today's game. Don't get me wrong, Rigo especially has a lot of talent, and very few fighters could do what he does, even if they wanted to. That does take a lot of talent because a lot of guys will just back straight up or stand there. But damn... In these cases, the aggressor should get more credit because if every fighter fought like Rigo and Lara, there would be NO SPORT of boxing. Period.
I'll be honest, I fast forwarded through the Abegko fight at a certain point because it was just more of the same over and over and over again. And Lara vs Trout. Damn, Lara made that damn near unwatchable. Does Lara deserve the pay day? Hell no. Let me ask you this, would anyone ever buy a Lara PPV?
These fighters are KILLING boxing. The fights are BORING. Period. BORING. Admit it. There is no anticipation. There is no entertainment value. Boxing is a spectacle. It's supposed to be entertaining.
If they are as good as you say they are, make the ring smaller. Make them have to rely on their boxing skills, as opposed to just their footwork. The canvas is too big. The sport is being punished. You think I want to pay you for running? Why the **** would I give you my money, so you can stare at your opponent all night? Does that sound like a smart way to spend money?
Remember the ring size in Lara vs Angulo. That's the way it should be. That was a hell of a fight. Great entertainment value that allowed Lara to show his boxing skills without RUNNING.
if Floyd really went for the ko, he should have KO'd flabby JMM. he put him down, hurt him and by all means JMM was there to get stopped that night. Floyd is actually probably in the same type of class of fighter as Lara and Rigo. If you appreciate floyd how could you not appreciate them?
Lara vs Angulo...check the ring size. Agbeko vs Rigo should have had a ring like this. And Lara vs Trout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhzEB7AOrII
I like aggressive action fighters - I like GGG, I like Kovalev, I like Stevenson, but to somehow suggest that the sublime boxing skills of a Lara, Rigo or FMJ are 'killing the sport' is beyond ridiculous. The sport has room for every kind of fighter, and skill comes in defense as much as offense and vice versa. You don't like those kinda fighters, vote with your wallet - no-one's forcing you to watch.
Man, shut the **** up, you lil *****. If the ring was smaller, EVERYONE wins. Watch the fight with Angulo vs Lara. Small ring, GREAT fight. That's the way it should be. Lara could still box, but he couldn't RUN. That's the difference. There is a difference between boxing and running. You see, you put Floyd in that same Ring as Angulo vs Lara, you would see why Floyd is great and Lara is not on the same level because Floyd could do the same thing with that ring size that he could with a larger ring. He's that good. You take away Lara's ring space, he's a lesser fighter. For the record, Rigo would still be a great fighter with a smaller ring, but he would have MORE KOs. Why would you be against that?
Like what? Angulo made weight. The ring was a little smaller. And? You put Rigo in that size ring, he would still box the hell outta his opponent, but the fight would end in a KO. Lara did a good job, and the fight ended in a KO. Fact is, Lara is not on the same level as Rigo or Mayweather. Either way, that was a HELL of an ENTERTAINING fight. You make the ring twice the size, it's BORING as HELL.
