For how long should Mayweather be considered p4p No.1 if he only keeps on fighting...

Yeah, I agree...Kessler and Dawson don't belong on that list...yet.

I pay no attention to ***time9.

Yes, the Floyd boys in general think Cotto needs to prove more or get more star status, one even said he needs to become an ATG.:rofl

Hatton however has proved more than Cotto? Is an ATG?

    Hatton brought the money.

Your other calling cards are consistently battling the worst fanboys in the history of the forum, being the completely impartial poster and then delving into rankings and records.

    That's mostly a shared attribute.:yep

    Good post.

I think he meant by performance - if not then Dawson and Kessler should be taken off.

I think Vasquez should be added to that list. Though I would be interested in seeing him against someone not named Marquez. That type of brutal trilogy wears fighters out. Look at MAB and Morales, and they had time in between their fights.

Don't think Kessler and Dawson should be there just yet.

In a year or two, Gamboa will be all over that.

I think both Dawson and Kessler need to improve their performance to be on the same level as the top guys...

I, for one, am getting tired of doing that....I think it's time to "turn the other cheek" for lack of better wording. Impartialness is easy most of the time (cept with Jones Jr, but I do ok)

No more arguing with non boxing fans, no matter how they bait me. It turns me off to the message board in general, and I like it here.

Gamboa, yeah...is it not ironic that by the time Mayweather beats, let's say, Cotto, that is itself might not be enough to make him p4p No.1 anymore?

yes but he is top 140 lbs
never mine said but but it was known that he can't compete at 147 lbs
for 1 he lost his debut at 147 to luis collazo then he lost to mayweather
so that doesn't tell me much there as for oscar his ship is sinking it can't float anymore

if he does'nt fight cotto this year, and instead recycles dlh or hatton, then he shouldnt be #1.

hatton brought the money but its about mayweather legacy that he claims of what it is. to be the best fyou have to fight the best and right now cotto is showing that he is the best

vasquez is one of my current favorites, but those type of fights he had with marquez take a lot out of you. he's in his 30's and could be on the decline. though if he shows now sign of fading, he could eassily clean out the other belts at 118.

I'm telling you guys, if Gamboa has an iron jaw, one that can absorb a top class punch again and again if need be or the recovery powers, he will indeed be the P4P #1 in due time.

Physically, not skill of course, but physically, he's actually a more impressive athlete than Floyd is.

    Floyd was never that fast....

It's disgusting how people fail to look at the talent of fighters and prefer looking solely at the name.

People bring up the Hatton win as a great one, but I don't see anything particularly great about it. The knockout erased the fact that Floyd struggled in the first 6 rounds and allowed Hatton to close the distance and control the real estate. Would any welterweight great from the 1980s struggle with Hatton to the extent Floyd did? No way. Neither would lesser fighters in Cotto, Quintana, Williams, and Margarito.

And when looking at Hatton's previous performance at welterweight, a dismal one against Luis Collazo, it was clear he didn't even belong in the same ring as Floyd. Yet people are going to say he deserved it more than a fighter such as Mosley? Give me a break.

Even before Quintana fought Williams, I thought he could give Mayweather hell to be honest. His size coupled with his slickness, movement, and sneaky left hand would be make him a very worthy opponent.

Yeah, I included the pre-Calzaghe run of Lucas, Mundine, Beyer, and Andrade. And my feeling that the 168 pound version of Kessler beats the 147 pound version of Mayweather P4P. Mayweather struggled and won a close fight against a past-it De La Hoya where De La Hoya's size and jab was causing him problems. De La Hoya's defense made it difficult for Floyd to land flush punches. Now bring Kessler into the mix: better timing, stamina, a solid defense, and a jab from hell.

I really really think Mayweather would have benefited from staying at 140 and beating up the 135 guys who came up to challenge him (Casa would have come up, Campbell, etc.)

147 seems to make Mayweather a pot shotter and less fluid.
