If the list was based purely on ability, Tyson strolls into the top 50, he was as good h2h as any other heavyweight in history, save for maybe 1967 Ali. However, taking resume into account as well, Tyson just misses out. The best fighter he ever beat was Michael Spinks, and he was not a natural hw. Other than that his best wins were Razor Ruddock (who Lewis also beat, and think how far down Lewis's list of best wins that Ruddock is) and probably Pinklon Thomas.

Michael Spinks is a clearly greater fighter p4p than Tyson IMO, and the fact that Tyson beat him easily doesn't change that.
all true ( cant agree with the last part ) but i just can't shake the belief that tyson should be up there with the greatest of all time. bloody shame it is .
thing is, i'm more of a casual fan than yourself and the other more expert posters, so i tend to think with my heart rather than my head on issues , and i also can't claim to have seen some of the fighters on your list.
all i know is if there are 50 better fighters than mike tyson then i need to start watching them.

Hopkins is clearly a greater fighter than Lewis IMO, though there's not much between them and I'm a big big fan of both guys. Tyson's resume is awful.

No-one would destroy you for it... except me if I saw names like Herbie Hide, Johnny Nelson, and Ryan Rhodes... :D

I'm thinking about putting together a top 25 list since 1990, I think I could come up with something vaugely credible. :D

This is my top 25 fighters of the past 25 years:

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85250&highlight=mccallum+camacho+tapia+tszyu+wright+mayweather+holyfield

Hope that's of some help when deciding on your own list.

Though since that was written I have now moved both Hopkins, Calzaghe and Lopez up a couple of places each.

You dont know much about Hagler do you? You know that most people here dont give Moore much chance against Roy Jones yet I see him ranked lower.
Why is Barbados at #30. Is it because he looks like Hagler? Where's Victor Galindez and Saad Muhammud? Why is McGovern so low?

Hmmm, you're not a very big fan of mine nor very big on manners, are you?

I know as much about Hagler as most people on this forum, hence why I rank him 30-40, the same as most other non-biased posters.

I don't think Moore would beat Jones either, but I don't see what relevance that has, this is not an h2h list obviously, it has fighters of all different weights in it.

Barbados is #30 because I think he is the 30th greatest fighter of all-time.

Galindez and Saad Muhammad are not there because I don't think they are in the top 50 fighters of all-time, though Saad Muhammad would certainly be in my top 100.

Same answer for McGovern, thats where I believe he merits. My list, my opinion.

Of course I'm a fan of yours Pacfan. I just question some of the things you say. It's my nature to question things.

Now let's narow this down some more.

do you think Barbados is #30? Based on what?

And have you ever seen Saad and Victor? No, truthfully have you?

I really doubt that but if that's the story you want to stick with...

In reality you have to place Hagler and Jones well within the top ten securely in place. So securely that no matter who else may come along, they could never be replaced. That's just how it is.

I asked a question. How is that destroying a thread? I admire his courage to put this list up but seriously, what doesn ANYONE know about barbados Joe? I dont htink there's any film and anyone who saw him should be long dead by now

Regarding Monzon and Louis: one thing the Argentinian has over Joe is that he didn't get dropped over and over again against varying levels of competition.
