You need to keep in consideration the way in Which Monzon beat his great competition too.... He really was something special and I have him in my top 10 ATG as well,

You may be right about top 15, I haven't made a top 20 Middleweight list, so I could be wrong, but I think Griffith would clearly make it if I were to do so. He did enough at the weight for inclusion IMO.

I don't see that much superiorty in Louis' resume as compared to Monzon's. I would probably have Louis a spot or so higher, but I think they are quite close and the argument for Monzon certainly exists.

Good list, mate. Always regarded you as one of the best posters here. Although I gotta ask you why you left out Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales on that list? I reckon they should be in there. In the late 30s or mid 40s I believe. I think they have done enough to be included in there. Especially since I remember you making a thread about MAB having one of the best resumes of the past 15 years with Morales being comparable to him but MAB having a slight edge over him. They atleast have to be there somewhere. What do you think?

It's a fair call, for me there was very very little between Ali and Charles so I won't get into a debate on this one, I wouldn't argue with anyone having them the other way around. I only recently re-watched Ali's fights with Terrell and Cleveland Williams, and was pretty blown away - again. This may have influenced my decision.

I know this may sound silly, but I wanted the list to reflect my own tastes, and not simply be a list that was a mediation between other peoples' lists. I love Monzon and feel strongly about his placing, for reasons explained elsewhere in this thread.

As I said before, I give Jones special dispensation because IMO the 168lbs version of Jones is the best fighter ever h2h. His achievements were pretty amazing too.

I personally don't see the argument for having Ike top 30.

    Me too.

Like with Ike, I disagree here on both counts.

If I ever revise my list, I will give these suggestions due consideration, as they possibly should have been in there.

Thank you very much for all your comments Cobra, your opinions are always always valued by me. :good

I am a HUGE fan of Pryor, but unfortunately I do not think his resume is strong enough to be in a top 50.

    Joe Louis: fair enough
Rocky Marciano: I disagree, I think my placing of him is about right
Holyfield above Lewis: Yes. Greatest cruiserweight in history, great heavyweight despite size disadvantage, strong resume. Not a lot between them as I am a big big fan of Lennox

Cobra answered McGrain's points for me, I agree with all of this. Except the last bit about Moore. :D

Thank you very much for your comments mate, really appreciate it :good

Yes, you do remember my thread well, I do believe Barrera has the best resume of the past 15 years and that Morales is but a whisker behind, and I love all of our Fab Four (Pac, MAB, Morales, JMM), and all four would definitely be in my top 100, with Pac, MAB and Morales far closer to 50 than 100, but I just couldn't fit them into my top 50. There are too many great fighters to choose from, you know? I'm sure you'd find the same problem if you wrote your own list. Obviously I'd love to have Pacquiao in there, but already it has been pointed out to me that I've left out Fighting Harada, Billy Conn, George Dixon, Holman Williams, Jack Dempsey, and more (Stanley Ketchel is another I just remembered who I don't have in).

If I ever do a full top 100, which if I'm honest is a bit outwith my own knowledge just now, then they will certainly be in there.

    Cheers again :good
