Both are in their 30's both fighting at a higher weight. Also as they have aged both have changed their styles to accomadate going up in weight....Cotto boxes more and Mayweather walks fighters down alot more. Considering this, I see the fight being fought in the middle of the ring. Cotto at some point especially on the inside will establish or try to that he is the stronger man. Mayweather has never been pushed around in the ring and is surprising physically strong. Cotto and Mayweather will constantly switch who is the agressor or boxer according to who is landing more and who is more hurt. In the end I see Mayweather stopping Cotto late or winning a convincing descision win
no this **** is going to be a onesided beat down and look for PBF to put in some body work. there was a reason TopRank kept cotto from PBF.
when they couldve fought in 2005-06 at 140....Cotto had no shot Mayweather looked like a beast at 140 and still threw with speed and combos...he has a better chance at 154 and Mayweather is slower throws less punches and is 35 i hope its not like the Gatti massacre...man i watched that **** yesterday, and my brother he isnt a boxing fan but he rewatched it like 3 times, never seen a world class guy get ****ed up like that in a while
I dont know... this is a very compelling match up. Cotto is bigger and more skilled than he was at Welterweight, so Mayweather is an at a disadvantage compared to the prior Cotto. Then again, this may also be a slower Cotto, and Mayweather's style emphasizes speed, and speed kills of course. Cotto's fighting spirit drains and wilts towards the end if he's fighting a losing battle. But then again, he may have more confidence versus Mayweather's punches because of his bigger size and the ability to absorb them. Whatever the case, i strongly favor Mayweather in winning the fight. Cotto will NEED to make this into a war if he's looking to have ANY chance of winning. Playing a chess match fight flies DIRECTLY into Mayweather's style...
I think Cotto hasnt ever regained what he had after Margarito and Manny, he looks discouraged when facing adversity vs Mayorga when Mayorga would hurt him and even at times in the second Margarito fight his facial expressions when put in pressure didnt look good to me Mayweather would be the toughest guy hes fought since Pac if not his entire career I think Mayweather dissects him and near the end of the fight has him in retreat mode probably doesnt stop Cotto but if he is aggressive as he was vs Ortiz and applies the pressure he put on Mosley he can really mash Cotto up in there
Maybe. I definitely see Cotto reacting worse to those straight rights as the fight progresses. Mayweather will walk him down for sure. Not sure about stoppage, but it's possible, though.
I have a sneaky feeling Cotto will have to box, whereas Mayweather will be looking for the power punches.
Its gonna be fun as long as it lasts...people forget Cotto is a very good counter puncher too....the best way to hurt a fighter is throw with them or land a counter they dont see and Cottos left is strong in both stances and different angles....Corley did it, Mosley did it, and their gonna be at a higher weight with 8 ounce gloves...i know one thing neither guy is walking out unscathed especially Cotto
Mayweather is so strong man. I just made a thread on it. Cotto is a powerful guy but I think he may have trouble dealing with everything Mayweather has in his arsenal, including physical strength. Cotto will have to make it a war to win and will have to keep Mayweather on the ropes but will he have the strength to keep him there?
