Its not every day we get to see two former ATG's & P4P legends in Roy Jones jnr & Felix Trinidad face off at an advanced age & stage in their careers.
Both have seen better days, but I still get a tingle down my spine at the thought of this fight. However, I hold both in such high regard that I dread seeing either guy knocked out, & for the first time I would truly love to see a fight end in a draw.

However, Im picking Jones jnr to win to win as he looked awesome in his last fight, he rolled back the years & I just cannot see an inactive Trinidad being able to come straight back & win this fight. maybe if he had a tune-up to shake off the ring rust I would give him a chance, but hes jumping straight back in at the deep end & I cannot see how he will be able to catch Jones enough to either stop him or win on points.

So Im going for Jones jnr by 10th round stoppage. & then hopefully the winner fights the winner of Hopkins-Calzaghe.

I know its not really a subject about british boxing, but as I post here so much I wanted to ask the people here what they thought about this fight & the outcome first, as I dont really care about the general forum much.

I hope the winner does not fight Calzaghe. Total waste of time. Calzaghe would be MUCH better off fighting Pavlik to shut up all his fans and then Dawson.
Dawson is easily the toughest fight for Calzaghe...fast, skilled and with some pop in his punches. Very tough fight, but his chin is not great so Calzaghe would be able to dent it for sure.

Pavlik would be an easy win that would get great praise from the yanks even though it would not mean as much as they think.
Beating Hopkins will be good for the legacy but he does not need to then fight another old man.

Don't care who wins this fight, I stopped judging RJJs career as soon as he came back down from heavyweight and looked like a shell of the fighter he was. I dont judge Ali on his fights with Spinks or Berbick and I don't think RJJ and Tito should be judged on these pointless fights when they are so far past their prime.

    Oh and Jones wins.....and easily.

Ach Strike, I supose I am just a wee bit emotional as I watched the HBO show building up the fight & I got the old lump in my throat watching these two ATG's ready to go at it, even though we know they have seen better days.
However, I cant help myself but my heart is falling into the trap of thinking RJJ is going to achieve something special once more before he retires, even though my brain is telling me that hes approaching 40 & will never recapture his glory years.
Boxing can **** you up though sometimes & something is telling me RJJ is going to have an 'indian summer' to his career & is going to beat Trinidad, & then beat the winner of Hopkins-Calzaghe!

I actually blame RJJ's downfall on his crazy decision to **** around with his weight, he should never have went up to heavy despite winning a title, & should never have came back down so quickly as his body couldnt handle the shock of the immediate weight loss & he lost something due to playing with his weight, & thats why he suffered shocking losses to inferior fighters like Tarver & Johnson. But now I feel he has levelled out & once again we are witnessing the 'old' RJJ, that being the lightning fast fighter he once was.

Yup, its my heart ruling my head & by Sunday morning I could be rueing my predictions, but you gotta put your neck on the line when the time comes.
Im on a winning streak with predictions here anyway, havent got one wrong in quite a while, so my gut instinct should serve me well once again:smoke

However, they say the last thing a fighter loses is his punch, & no-one could hit harder than a prime Trinidad! The way he destroyed Mayorga is still fresh in my mind... aah they may be past it, but this is still a good fight.
Im going to have to avoid the result though, & get a loan of the tape from my pal & watch it the next day... aah the life of a result dodger, must remember not to put on SKY sports news before I go round as those ****ers always broadcast the result:twisted:

That would be the ideal scenario for JC but Pavlik has to come through his rematch with Taylor first which is far from guaranteed.

I pretty much agree with what you said about RJJ too. I will stick with the memories of the almost untouchable fighter at light heavy. Anything fter that has been a bit of a circus...

i watched it on sultana last night, quite entertaining.

for what its worth, i cant wait for this fight, i shall be setting the alarm to watch, RJJ is my second favourite of all time, he was untouchable at sm and lh.
oh, and trinidad, whilst i know it is a selling excercise, has been really gobbing off to roy.
might be that the famous RJ turns up rather than roy jones:hey

i really can't see tito winning this one. he's fighting at a higher weight than ever, add that to the ring rust and age, i just cant see him winning this one. however i agree with dunky i would love to see a draw because i don't want to see either one of these guys who i've enjoyed watching so much get hurt. wishful thinking.

i think jones by stoppage around the 6th

That Steve Chinnock guy who posts here made a good point that Tito could get seriously hurt here.

Tito started as a Welterweight and slowly became an ok looking Middleweight and has nearly been 3 years out of action while Jones has still been fighting once a year. Plus Jones has gone all the way to Heavyweight and Is big for LHW.

Worse matchup than Vargas Vs Mayorga.

I agree with the sentiments here, Jones Jr and Tito were two of the guys that were at their best when I first got into boxing as a kid. Pity that some people talk about them in terms of their recent unimpressive fights. Strike's right, we don't remember Ali based on his last few performaces, we shouldn't do that with current greats either.

It was the HBO build up I seen, my pal had it recorded. Hes a boxing collector who records everything he can get his hands on, I dont even ask him where he gets the stuff from anymore, I just go up & watch it!

It was funny seeing Tito with a different missus from the last one I remembered, he must have traded his old missus in for a newer one with less miles on the clock:D

RJJ to win late in the fight Jeff. Call me crazy, but I think RJJ has found his old magic again, & I think there are a few big wins left in him after this one!
I have a feeling RJJ is going to achieve something special in his late years, like Sugar Ray Robinson.
