Yes and what you and almost everyone in this thread has said can be addressed by what i wrote here in bold

Kirkland, Angulo, Zbik, Chavez, and virtually every other opponent he's willing to face is more accomplished than Pirog? More skilled?

Yet nobody doubts that Pirog would smash Dzin to pieces. Including Sergio, his team, and HBO.

He's not going to fight Kirkland, I guarantee that 100%. Angulo either, I guarantee that 99%.

pirog is my boy and everything, but we really gotta see what sergio's next move is, if its manfredo instead of a big name then clearly we can rip his promotors... atleast pirog holds a belt... WTF does a fight against manfredo do for sergio, he is 36 yrs old! collect all the MW belts or move up to SMW only options in my eyes!

Martinez claiming he need not fight Pirog because Pirog hasn't accomplished anything is a bit hypocritical. Martinez's own resume doesn't live up to objective scrutiny. Let's take an honest look at it.

Bunema: Way past his peak. Even at his absolute best he lost to Bronco McKart. When he was a bit past his peak he lost to Ouma. Years later he lost to Martinez.

Cintron: We all know Kermit falls apart when the pressure is on.

Williams: Sergio lost the first fight fair and square.

Pavlik: Struggling with weight and alcoholism. He was admitted to the Betty Ford Center both before and after the Martinez fight, and his next fight is scheduled for 171 pounds. He damn near killed himself making 160.

Williams: Many of us have known for years that PDub was a KO waiting to happen. Plus he looked like crap in the Cintron fight. In addition, PW is not a middleweight.
    =====================

I think Pirog would beat every opponent on Sergio's record except peak Pavlik at 160, or Pavlik now at 168. Ring Magazine has Pirog ranked #7 at 160, and I'm confident Pirog would beat at least 4 of the guys who are ranked above him.

Martinez's bull**** statement reminds me of the time Mayweather said he didn't need to fight Cotto because Cotto didn't have enough fans.

Pirog is better than manfredo i'd say.

Pirog at 160 is better than cotto, kirkland or angulo at 160

Pirog at 160 is on par with sylvester or zbik/chavez winner at 160.

Pirog at 160 is not as good as sturm at 160.

Pirog at 160 is not as good as cotto, angulo, kirkland at 154.

I'm not sold on Pirog yet in terms of being some type of elite fighter. Jacobs, while a good offensive talent had serious defensive issues and journeyman Michael Walker was landing the same type of punches on him all night. It's not like it wasn't a close fight up until the KO and Pirog only landed a cool 18% of his punches in that fight. Not to mention his power has been blown out of proportion based on the Jacobs win considering that's the only time in his entire pro career he's iced someone like that. If anything it showed that Jacobs had chin issues as well.

Don't get me wrong, beating Jacobs is a solid win despite his weaknesses but I'd like to see how he performs with another top level guy in the division before declaring him as someone on Martinez' level.

I like Pirog, but he's a nobody. And the proof that he's a nobody is that he's fighting Javier Mosciel in his next fight. Martinez has been grinding for years, and he's on an excellent run of beating fighters EVERY boxing fan knows of. So, why go backwards? Let Pirog break of some more wins like the Jacobs one, and then maybe we'll have something.

Wait, so you think that manfredo, cotto, angulo or kirkland are better opponents at 160 than pirog?

    Your just hating man.

You know what's ironic? If you look at his early posts there were none of this euro-crap. I genuinely think he woke up one day and decided to be a troll.

To be honest you have to factor in Martinez age here. While he has been maturing into a better fighter later on in his career he still would like to capitalise on the fact he's very highly ranked by fighting the big draws of the game while he still has the skills to do it, pirog isn't a money fight and while it's winnable for Martinez isn't the best option financially. Whether you want to consider that a duck on Martinez part is up to you but I'm quite sure he's capable of beating pirog and I'm quite sure he knows it.

Pirog would stop MArtinez in less than 6 rounds. He's a relentless stalker like MArgarito, but he actually has great defensive skills and better precision.
