...is that really a good idea? If the man plans to retire in October, won't coming in, laying waste the the Klits, collecting the belts and basically giving them right back upon retiring ultimately be bad for boxing? Haye can never go down as a great or dominant heavyweight because he's had so few fights at heavyweight, even if he beats both Klits. But by beating the people who DO have the potential to be recognized as great or dominant heavyweights, isn't he destroying our chance to salvage the one good historical thing about this heavyweight era? A dominant win over two dominant champions, followed immediately by retiring would devastate the heavyweight division and create pure chaos.

For the sake of boxing, should anybody want Haye to win?

I'm not saying I want the Klits to lose, but the fact is that they lose to the best fighters they fight and those fighters weren't even much. I don't think highly of Haye as a fighter, and PARTICULARLY not as a heavyweight(fraud), but he's an okay acid test to see if theyve really grown from losses or not.

For boxing it's really, really bad. I certainly don't want him to win because it would set the division back 10 years and he's an utter moron, but if he wins he deserves it and I would have peace with it.

I don't get this "setting the division back" nonsense. Thats the word of fanboys. If Haye does win and clearly, doesn't that just mean that the division was always weak and unworthy the whole time? Why is the sport better off with a fake impression of dominance?

Setting back in the manner of leaving all the vacant belts laying around, and it takes years and years again until we have a unified/concensus champion again. And with the current reluctance of the current top contenders to face eachother it might actually take even longer as that.

And to answer your second question, yes it would mean the division is even a lot weaker as I had imagined as that happens. But it still would only be good if he doesn't retire and would defend his championships at least 5 or 6 times against "real" contenders.

    Good question.

I think the best thing for boxing from those options is that Haye beats Wlad then loses to Vitaly. Then Haye retires, but it shakes up the division somewhat. Plus it still leaves a champion in Vitaly, someone to carry the torch.

If Haye beat both and retired it would be a horrible anti-climax.

Now if Haye beats both then rules for the next 2/3 years then thats the best option!

Yes. And that's a bad thing. But if Wlad beats Haye decisively, it would be a signature win and it would contribute to dispelling the notion that the impression of dominance is fake, which is good for the heavyweight division.

Haye beating the Klits would leave the division in ruins and for the rest of the Klit's continued reign nobody would take them seriously.

I was wondering the same. Give that Haye wants to retire very soon as a fan of the sport I can't support him to win because him winning and throwing the belts in the trash can isn't good for our sport.

I wish someday we'll have a young, strong and passionate contender who can collect most or all HW belts and defend them for a couple years. Haye clearly lacks the passion for the sport to represent it.

He's been talking about retirement for so long given his young age one seriously has to question if his heart for boxing.

I agree, it's hard to pull for a guy who has one foot out the door already...

BUT,,, a Haye win over Wlad (especially a brutal KO) sets up a truely exciting, revenge/redemption grudge-match with big bro!

    I'd go for that!

I think it's best for Haye to beat Vitaly and then lose to Wlad.

Wlad is already greater than Vitaly and this signature win would solidify his place as a ATG champion.

The Co-Rule has gotten tired, at the end of the day people want 1 champion, 1 guy who sits on the throne, 1 guy who you can tell your casual sports fan friends is the baddest man on the planet.

Not "well there's Vitaly and Wladimir and Wlad has the IBF, WBO...." To me that is what is hurting the division. Clarity is good. So if Haye fights Vitaly first I'll actually be rooting for Haye to beat him and when he meets Wlad eventually I'll then root for Wlad.

    It's better for boxing.

We would have a 3 belt undisputed champ in Haye and possibly a series of competitive rematches between him and the klits. Who cares if no one took them seriously? If they lose to a guy like Haye then they'd deserve it.
