Time and time again idiot fans on here revert back to Tszyu was never that good because he lost to Phillips.

Well Here is what Tszyu loss was and what was on the line compared to other fighters and you tell me that you can eat crow.

It was Tszyu's official 20th Pro fight.

On the line was IBF 140 title it was Kostya's 7th defense of the belt.
    Vince was 35-3
The fight was in Atlantic City/ USA.

Now here are some other so called fighters and what and who they were fighting at the same time.

    Shane Mosley
Fought Ramon Felix who 23-9 for no title

    Antonio Margarito
Fought 8-8 Daniel Mendez for no title

    Ricky Hatton
Fought 11-2 Gilbert Quiroz for the WBO Inter Cont 140 title

    Floyd Mayweather
Fought 38-1 Genaro Hernandez for the WBC 130 title at Home and it was Genaro's last ever fight.

    Manny Pacquiao
Fought 9-6-3 Ariel Austria in the Phillipines for no belt

I just made some examples yet Tszyu gets cruisafied on here because of his 1 loss.

Many other great to good fighters lost but none get **** like Tszyu gets for his loss away from home to Phillips.

When a argument comes up there first sign of stupidy usually starts with but Tszyu lost to a crack head Phillips.

Have your say ill listen to all knowledgable fans but if your a newbie hater dont bother.

I want to see other fighters and who they fought and how many title fights they'd had by there 20th fight.

Yeah I completely agree with you Boppa Zoo. People fail to take into account how early that was in his career. Tszyu was a freakish talent even in the early days but that loss completely changed Tszyu's approach inside and outside the ring and he became a far more focussed and thoughtful fighter. He no longer simply tried to blast his opponant out. He boxed too macho and arrogantly for his own good in the early days. It's a good example of loss doing someone a favour in the long run.

People use it as a backwards reason to say Hatton is ****, without knowing a thing about Tszyu's career . Ignore them mate, they know **** all about the great Kostya Tszyu , Ricky Hatton or boxing in general.

People also tend to forget that Vince was a very dangerous fighter, no shame in losing to him. It's that attitude that makes fighters not want to take risky fights unless they're getting paid millions and millions for it.

yes kostya had a great amateur career and so did donald curry. does that automatically translate into greatness? so what if he lost to Phillips that early in his career. i believe he took it as a learning experience and better it happened earlier than later vs. better fighters than phillips like judah or hurtado. azumah nelson lost to salvador sanchez early in his career and became Africa's greatest boxer. and even tho he came up short vs. the elite fighters of his time, phillips was no bum

Exactly the same way I see it- if fans want to see the best matchups being made, going overboard over a loss is the absolute worst way to ensure that'll happen on a regular basis.

It's also a bit sad to me to see all the **** Vince takes because I've seen alot of people knock him, knowing the worse they make Vince look, the worse it'll make Tszyu look. Vince fought the fight of his life and deserved the W. Chalk another one up under the "will over skill" category. :good

Very good post, too much is based on a loss these days.Kostya probably learned more from that fight than any of his others. And a career does not end with one loss against a good fighter.Julian Jackson lost to Mike Mccallum but it did not stop him going forward and what a fight.Could go on all day about this.

Lest we forget, Tszyu spent the weeks leading up to this fight in court, embroiled in a legal dispute with his former manager, which he subsequently lost to the tune of millions.
No excuses...was one of Tszyu's mottos. Vince was one tough mofo! Thank goodness the ref stopped it when he did.

As previously mentioned, he came back better.

KT is hurt in history because he didn't rematch Phillips plain and simple. Great fighters go right back into the fire, and Kostya chose not to.

Or they have 10 fights with 9 stoppage victories including culminating in the Undisputed unified 140 lbs champion.

    Something Floyd never did.

Is it brought up that often on here?

I feel Tszyu is pretty highly regarded around here, and rightly so. When people try to use Tszyu against Hatton, they generally don't talk about the Phillips loss but rather the inactivity of Kostya in the years leading up to the fight.

I think most knowledgeable fans give Tszyu his due.

It is also not fair to compare him to most other fighters, see above, as he had a vast amateur career and came to the pro ranks at an age and level of experience were he had to be fast-tracked up the ladder.

That was a great great fight, amazing performance from Vince. Maybe Phillips could have been great with dedication. You do make out Tyszu was 'green' and unprepared, he was 27, near or prime, with countless of amateur fights under his belt
