Lets not forget the real fighter Bowe ducked his whole career: His sister - when they did meet she bust his lip for his trouble
It just seems that the "guy" you're talking about was never the same after the wars with Bowe. Before he seemed to have almost great chin - it's enough to see bombs that he's been hit by Pou'ha. He stayed on his feet just to come back and TKO the guy (yeah I know he bit him while hurt but it's not the case). He also wasn't so stiff and frightened in the first rounds and that's what made him easy to blow out for Lewis or Tyson. I think that Bowe faced a very, very dangerous fighter in Golota. It's not a shame to have a war with that version of AG for ANY heavyweight IMO. And Bowe did show tremendeous heart in those thrilllers.
golota went on to fight for 10 more years secureing multiple title shots and by almost all accounts getting jobbed agianst ruiz and byrd two fights he won in my eyes ... bowe went on to kidnap people and join the marines for about a week .. you tell me who was the same after words and who wasn't
Bowe ducked nearly every legit pucher in the 90s and that is pretty hard to do in the most puncher laden HW era ever .
I'm just saying that Golota was never THAT good again and there is no reason for Bowe to be ashamed of even loosing to ESPECIALLY 96 version of him.
and since when was Pou'ha a water mark for hard hitters... this isn't exactly getting tagged repeatedly by david tua
I dont know about that, when he faced Golota, he was undefeated, had power in both hands, and was a bully in the ring. Golota was no push over at that time, it was a couple years later did he fall apart at the hands of guys like Tyson and Lewis, 96 was Golota's prime, by that time Bowe was all but washed up, still had power and heart and chin, but the fundamentals seemed by gone in those two fights, even though they were exciting while they lasted.
Did you see this fight? Those were bombs.. And comparison to Tua is pretty accurate. Tua and Pou'ha both had pretty the same, tank-like frame and I dare to say they punch with similar power. Pou'ha just ate his career I guess.. Much like Bowe - and you can call this a lack of heart but questioning Riddick's heart inside the ring is ridiculous to me - apart from his tendency to foul though..
To stand up and try to finish the fights after repeated low blows by Golota is brave. Bowe was getting beat to the punch but he hung tough and stood in there long enough to fire back and frustrate Golota. My only knock on Bowe is the fact that he didn't fight Lennox Lewis as a pro and avoided Mike Tyson and Razor Ruddock.
I wouldn't say he avoided Mike Tyson and Razor Ruddock. Early on, Mike Tyson was convicted in February 1992, when Bowe was still on the rise, later beating Evander Holyfield in November of that year for the title. The winner of Bowe-Holyfield I was supposed to fight the winner of Lewis-Ruddock, which took place two weeks before Bowe-Holyfield I. But Bowe and Newman dumped the WBC belt in the garbage and decided to go for the big HBO dollars for easy fights. I believe that Tyson-Bowe would have taken place in 1997 if Tyson hadn't lost to Holyfield and Bowe hadn't taken those brutal beatings against Golota.
In hindsight it was a very dangerous fight, but at the time, Golota was not given much chance at all. Bowe thought he'd be home after 2, 3 rounds.
