Just try and name me someone that has done something more impressive than starting at 130 and going on to beat the top guy at 154.
There's about 11 or 12 fighters that I have rated over FLoyd All time at the moment, but depending on the quality of his opposition in his last 4 fights with SHowtime and if he decides to fight a few more times after that, he can definitely get inside the top 10 for me. Right now I can't have him ranked higher than: SRR, Greb, Armstrong, Pep, Duran, Ali, SRL, Langford, Mickey Walker, probably Gene Tunney. That's 10 off the top of my head. I'm having a hard time mentioning other ATG's that I'd rank higher than him. Hagler and MOnzon were phenomenal fighters, but neither challenged themselves in multiple divisions at higher weights like FLoyd did. That to me is a big factor in mentioning someone in the upper echelon of the ATG's. I firmly believe if FLoyd decided to stay at SFW/LW, he could've put together some kind of stranglehold in either division for a long, long time. A kingpin in either weight class ala Duran.
Greb started out as a Welter and has a win and a draw over Gene frickin' Tunney (Gene's only official loss and draw!!!). That beats 130 to 154 anytime in my book. :deal Guillermo Jones started out as a welter too and won the CW title a couple of times, also being the longest holder in history without defending the title
Sam Langford beating Lightweight champ Joe Gans before beating Harry Wills, Joe Jeanette and Sam McVea at Heavyweight.
but margarito was coming off a year long ban from the sport which also put an asterisk over his entire career he then fights manny at a weight he was not even ranked in... a dominant performance none the less but even the biggest pacquiao fans know that was a bit of a bull**** title win just for the record of it (kind of like morales win over replacement cano)
RJJ starting from 154 to 200 to win a HW title then came back to Lt Heavy to beat the top guy in the division with out a retirement is much more impressive.
No it isn't. He fought John Ruiz. :rofl Not to mention all the other fights he missed from 154 to 175 in his career.
I'm not a huge fan of Ruiz (who is?) but he certainly had a better resume than Baldomir. Jones beat Hopkins which is no easy task as well as Toney. Those three wins are better than any three in Floyd's record, at least in my opinion.
Baldomir was THE champion. Ruiz was a handpicked trinket belt holder. Don't you see the glaring difference there? And yes Jones beat Hopkins in a boring fight and he beat Toney. Then for the next 10 years didn't fight anyone worth a crap while avoiding anyone that could punch. Not to mention Hopkins avenged his loss to Roy.
