Tua has such a great chin as a pro heavyweight its hard to believe he got hurt that bad by that 1 right hand, with headgear on at that. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3JRgun7wG8&feature=related[/ame]
Yep very surprised, fast too! When was this bout, it even must have been in a time Felix was already past his prime I guess?
I thought it was a very good well timed punch and with Tua's forward momentum it made it even better.
This was the semi-final, I'm looking for footage of the final for a while now against my countryman Vanderlyde. The verdict (Savon by points) was highly controversial as far as I remember. Always wanted to see if that was correct, because Arnold got beaten to a pulp in the other 2 bouts.
Savon was in his prime in those years. He really was a beast it wasn't about if he was gonna win it was about when was he gonna knock the guy out with his right hand. He strated to slip in 97 but before he was almost unbeatable(of course he did lose some but very not much) he had an aura of fear around him just like Tyson had pryor to the Douglas loss. Robney in the final Savon did beat Arnold but he was smart and moved a lot to avoid Savon's power.
Thanks for sharing this northend, great find. That was a short, crisp right hand. Very underated punch that does a lot of damage. Savon was a beast.
I think Tua has a lot sturdier chin now than during that time. But Savon is really one of the few amateurs that didn't turn pro who could have dominated the HW division had he decided to turn pro.
