If you are right handed, would it benefit your guy (southpaw) if your stance was orthodox since he will mostly be sparring and fighting right handers? When I hold mitts for lefties, I always change my stance to a southpaw as it helps me visualize the combinations being thrown, but now I am questioning whether this is beneficial. Roach holds mitts for PAC in a ortho stance, and John David Jackson holds mitts for kovalev in an orthodox stance although jdj is a lefty. What do you guys think?
for me, mitts are not necessarily about conditioning (even though that is definitely a byproduct), but instead for technique/tactics introduction, accuracy, precision, counter punching, etc. when teaching techniques i will stand southpaw with a southpaw. when shifting to tactics training i will turn orthodox so they get an accurate perspective. technique-using the tool tactics-how/when/where/why to use the tool
When doing mitts with a southpaw, I generally don't need to change my stance cause it is slightly modified from a fighting stance to hold the mitts properly.
I am a southpaw, and you pad men are a waste of time, you only practise poor technique! Padwork is all wrong for sparring and fighting
I have made it my mission to discredit padwork, 1, 2 , 1, 2, 3 the imagination and creativity is none existence!
