Breaking news just in.... THAT GUY COULD PUNCH. That was really the only chance he had going in to this fight... A punchers one.
im no fan of mundines, though i respect his wasted talent. if mundine hit pavlik clean with a right hand, id expect pavlik to be in a bit of trouble. but mundine IS a puncher. despite the nay sayers.
Mundine is a puncher... HAHAHAHAHA. Good one. Keep them coming. I guess someone forget to tell formidble guys like Neivas and Siaca that then hey???
I wouldn't go that far to say great fighter after great fighter. Bika and manfredo are hardly world beaters to someone like Joe. A 43 year old Hopkins certainly wasn't the biggest test out there either. Kessler and lacy were both good fighters in their prime, but that is about it. There isn't much talk about Pavlik v Calzaghe from what i have heard. He is going for RJJ instead. Which is a joke. Just wanting to pad the resume with much faded American legends. Look at the opposition guys like Manny Pac, Marquez, Cotto and other top p4p fighters have faced in recent times in comparison. It has certainly picked up from earlier in his career, but is still far from superb.
Whilst i believe that Joe still has too much class for Pavlik, this is a very close fight right now. Pavlik is better than people give credit for. Fast becoming one of my favourite fighters.
Bika is world class. Manfredo is not but is was a decent contender, albeit in the teens. Lacy was meant to end Joe's career and it was the most dominate big fight performance seen in years. Kessler again a heavy favourite and partially unified Super Middleweight champion. Hopkins the undisputed and world recognised Light Heavy title holder. Pavlik the same but at 160lbs. Pavlik v Calzaghe is touted for October. It'll happen, money talks.
November 15th Millenium Stadium Cardiff ( Formerly Cardiff Arms park for you Older Traveling Aussie gentlemen ) :yep Joe Calzaghe v kelly Pavlik .. done deal apparently . :happy Joe's retirement fund fight , U$ 20,000,000 i heared two weeks back . "Fan****ingtastic" Ippy Come on over fella the beers on me :deal & bring the Mutt with you .
I didnt think 2008 could get anywhere near the amount of quality fights that 07 did but its pretty close so far. Pav vs Joe will be a great fight.
Kessler v Someone not called Mundine next , Pity about Choc not getting into the swing of things :verysad
I've resigned to the fact that it will be more nonsense than sense from now on. The sense bit is what im looking forward to
Bika is world class, but hardly a top level fighter, or tough comp for one of the p4p best in the sport. Floyd Mayweather in comparison has been bagged by everyone for fighting an "easy" option in Hatton. Hatton is still a class above Bika. Lacy was a good fighter, not a top p4p one though by any stretch. Just one of the top fighters in the division. Kessler wasn't a favourite on the betting sites i saw, yet alone heavy. Even fight, against a guy who was just outside the p4p top 10 once again. Hopkins at 43 wasn't undisputed, as Erdei and Dawson were legitimate title holders. Massive under dog as well, due to his age. Pavlik fight would be a good one, however Joe is going for jones. If he does, its disgraceful. There are so many better fights out there.
Bika's not one of the p4p best, but he's a world class operator and a more than credible opponent. Anyone who bagged Mayweather doesn't have their head screwed on right. Hatton was the legitimate 140lbs world title holder. It's fights like that that boxing needs! Lacy, again not p4p, but he was meant to tear Joe's head off. It was a clear case of #1 fighting #2 in the division, as was Kessler (the TAB had Kessler as clear favourite). Erdei and Dawson are mearly belt holders in my opinion. Hopkins became the man when he beat Tarver, who was recognised in everyone's eyes as the legit 175lbs champion. I'd be disappointed if Joe fought Roy and retired. I wouldn't have too many problems if he fought him and kept going. Arum has said though that it's Calzaghe and Pavlik that he's trying to make.
I would be very dissapointed if he fought Roy jones at this stage of his career. Pavlik is a tough, prime opponent, who realistically he should be able to beat. If he fights him, then YES, his recent opposition will have been excellent. If he goes for Jones though, it falls a bit short IMO.
