What would you say he needs to improve most? I was impressed with his heart I was impressed with his stamina And I was impressed with his right hand punching both straight, looping and the uppercut but.. his left hand is really a range finder or maybe a distraction for his right. his jab was non existent vs Washington and Ortiz and seems to have regressed. also his left hook was terrible he would nearly fall over throwing it. I think his power is real and his straight right when disciplined is very accurate but he can rely too much on it and Ortiz came to expect it and that's why it took wilder 5 more rounds after the 5th to put him away. Joshua if planned properly should be able to shut the right down if wilder doesn't improve on his left in another note wilder for better or worse is way too eager to just run in when he thinks a guy is done and Ortiz caught him at least twice doing this.
As I've said multiple times, it's just jab, right hand, jab, right hand, jab, right hand. Wilder is so predictable... I agree, he relies too much on it. If you are one-dimensional like that, a person with movement paired with skill is going to exploit that heavily. That person with movement and skill, now who could that be...oh yeah, tyson fury. Tyson Fury is the one, it is confirmed. He will be undisputed heavyweight champion. And wilder still has a big question hanging around him. How does he fare against a moving target? You can't jab, right hand, jab, right hand then can you...
Wilder has great power, pretty good speed and reflexes, his stamina is out of question. But skills. Wilder has so many technical flaws, maybe he should hire new trainer to fix it?
His jab is pretty poor, it lacks authority which is why Washington was able to out jab him and Washington has a pretty weak jab. Wilder without a jab is a Wilder who can't impose his size and that's when we see him being out boxed. His body positioning is pretty poor too. His defensive style is all head and upper body movement, he has no guard to block or catch shots he relies on his size and reflexes to slip shots. The problem with that for him is he can be moved back or out of position by feints and jabs, which is why Ortiz was able to consistently back him up without actually throwing much. Vitali adopted a similar defence but the difference with him is when he moved he moved laterally and when he moved his upper body his weight was already forward so when he leaned back he leans back to a position where he his still balanced while Wilder leans all the way back and is then forced to move his feet backwards if another follow up punch comes his way as his weight is distributed too much on the back foot to move laterally.
