You don't know Eastern European amateur training programm. If the guy beats another guy in amateurs two times (if only last one is not a newcomer), then it is pretty much obvious that he is much more technical. Adding Beterbiev knowledge how to deliver power to that equation = we have Kovalev ko'ed in 6-7 rounds if they met. But Kovalev likes challenge it will be to his disadvantage if he steps up against Beterbiev
Shut up dumb hoe, Kovalev destroys Beterbiev. Beterbiev is simply too clumsy and too one dimensional. Until he learns how to fight as a pro he'll never make it far in any division
1) Pro's aren't amateurs. 2) It's been a long time since then. 3) Kovalev has improved. Plus we don't even know how those fights went, maybe Kovalev is right and he was robbed? As far as I'm aware there isn't footage of the two fights.
Beterbiev showed a nice jab to the body yesterday. His jab upstairs needs work though. He also needs to work on his head movement.
Put him with Stevenson or whoever is technical for you. You are blaming World Champion for not knowing something in boxing? What he does not know is dirty techniques.
First of all, it was only once. Socond: you don't know politics in Russian amateur program. Beterbiev is a Chechen supported by Chechen leaders, so he had to be on the team and judges had to rule accordingly.
I think it was twice not once Still, id favour Kovalev until Artur gets more pro fights in Sergey hits almost as hard yet seems a much better boxer and mover
Beterbiev beat Kovalev once in an official fight and claims he beat him in sparring too. Kovalev disputes this and says the whole Russian amateur squad saw it and will confirm he got the better of it. Beterbiev won their official contest by a solitary point (25-24 IIRC). Kovalev insists he was robbed in that fight and Beterbiev says he was not at his best in it.
I take it they fought in the amateurs? Soon as I saw him fight last night I thought I want to see him and Kovalev fight.
When you show me the video of beterbiev beating kovalev , I will believe , otherwise , it's just an opinion of often very crooked judges . I watched beterbiev vs usyk and Usyk easily beat beterbiev and imo kovalev is much better boxer , than beterbiev ,with better defense and just as good power
Semi-finals Russian National Championships - Yakutsk 2007-05-07 (81kg) Artur Beterbiyev WPTS 25:24 Sergey Kovalev Beterbiev said he beat Kovalev twice already and wants him again 'No hand outs for up and coming light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7KOs). He wants to earn his shot at a world title by becoming a mandatory challenger, hopefully facing former amateur rival Sergey Kovalev (26-0-1, 23KOs), who holds the WBO/WBA/IBF titles at the weight. Kovalev faces Beterbiev's training stablemate Jean Pascal on March 14. Beterbiev will return on April 4th in the co-feature to Adonis Stevenson's defense of the WBC championship. "[Kovalev] has three belts - this is an obvious fact, and therefore he is really a strong fighter. I do not see this as a problem - to fight with him, or with any other world champion. But I would do it after becoming the official challenger for the world title - to ensure that there were no issues. And as an amateur and as a pro I have always had the same mindset - whoever is the strongest, he should be number one," Beterbiev said. Beterbiev remembers trading punches with Kovalev in the amateurs. "I boxed him twice - in Kislovodsk with sparring and fighting for the championship of Russia. And I won twice," Beterbiev said.' Interviews with both regarding their fight in the amateurs Sergey Kovalev TMF: During the Russian national championship in 2007, you have been defeated by decision in the hands of Artur Beterbiev, a fellow now based in Montreal. What can you tell us about Beterbiev and this fight? SK: We competed in the semi-final and I have not lost this fight in my opinion. Regarding Beterbiev, it has a large strike force and a strong chin. He has great talent, great experience for amateurs and it will go away.' Artur Beterbiev 'JEJ: Quebec boxing fans would like to know the details of the duel against your compatriot and current Mid-Heavyweight champion of the WBO, Sergey Kovalev. How was this battle? AB: We were a member of the Russian national team. At that time, I was the amateur champion of Europe 2006. I faced Sergey in 2007. I had to measure up to Evgeny Makarenko, the amateur world champion in 2001 and 2003, but to make me, I had to beat Kovalev in the semifinals. It was not my best performance, I am nevertheless emerged victorious by decision. Kovalev is strong and has great punching power and he did not become world champion by accident.' They go at it again Beterbiev threw down some fighting words, when he declared that he would beat Kovalev - again. Beterbiev says he beat Kovalev twice in the amateurs and plans to make it a trilogy of wins when they meet in the pros. "I will put on a good show and fight April 4th," Beterbiev continued. "When I step in the ring, I don't have a friend. I want to continue to get better until I face Sergey Kovalev again. And I will beat him again!" Kovalev has responded to his countryman "It's interesting that he says he beat me at something. What is it a dream of something? We met twice [in the amateurs], where in the first two rounds Beterbiev's head was touching his ass, and then in the third and fourth rounds - when I was tired - he could not do anything with me. All of his punches struck air, as if he was doing shadow boxing. The entire Russian team will confirm what happened in Kislovodsk," Kovalev said. "And the second time [we met] was in the Russian championships and the judges gave him the victory as I had no support behind me and I was fighting on my own against an entire corrupt commission in Magnitogorsk. So there is no need to mislead people, Artur. First earn a fight with me, and then I will punish you. And no more wishful thinking. As of today, you even refused to fight Chilemba and that shows that you're scared."
