I tend to think perhaps, a guy who has gone far enough into an arguement with Pudz for it to become a fight either REALLY knows what they are doing or REALLY drinks way too much. I'd still take Bas Rutten in a street fight over a guy like Pudz 8 days a week.

Mariuz was small actually for today strongmen standars and he would not be in the final today in the strogman competition. At 135kg in his peak he has no chance against monsters like thor, brian shaw ,eddie hall etc guys between 180 and 200kg much taller with much bigger frame. You had to choose a super legend like rutten to give a chance to the side of the fighters against a strongman so it said all. You give to these 3 strongmen of today a basic class of wrestling to learn how to use his body weight in 1 or 2 months and a fighter who was training his complete life could easily lose a fight because the diference of size, power, strength etc is so huge

Absolutely Robert...Gene Fullmer is the first guy I think of when "strong" is mentioned...and outside of the man who bossed him, Dlck Tiger, who was stronger p4p?

I understand where you are coming from, size does indeed matter a lot and there are weight classes for a damn good reason. But I still stick by my statement. With the right tactics a much smaller guy can take out a physical monster if they hang around long enough for the cardio to matter. Fatigue makes cowards of us all, even halfthor.

BTW I don't really consider Bas a super legend. He had the potiental to be, but injury kept him from getting the resume to prove it. He was just the first really well rounded guy who popped into my mind. Hell there are stories of Ken Shamrock toying with the Big Show when he was in WWF. Not a world class strong man of course, but a huge guy who was agile enough to pull of some seriously impressive stuff for his size.

That clip is more about Sweet Pea having much better head position than chavez. It was more a function of leverage rather than pure strength. It doesn't matter how strong you are, you can't just walk through the top of a guys skull.

I really miss the early "Wild West" days of MMA. PRIDE never die.

I've seen Pudz in fights and he wasn't impressive. Stiff, lacking in technique, overly jittery and ended up gassing in about thirty seconds (that's not an exaggeration). Eddie Hall didn't look much better either. That type of strength isn't useable in a boxing sense and is far too cardio intensive to allow you to fight for anything more than a round at most. After that you're a sitting duck.

Silva was a natural savage, but he never learnt to punch properly. It was always big wild swings that better trained strikers could see coming a mile away. It really came to hurt him down the line, when the overall level of striking finesse improved, but Silva wasn't really a guy who could be trained, I guess.

Wanderlei always cracked me up because you'd watch him in camp shadow boxing and stuff and you'd think "Wow he actually looks very crisp technically" then you see him spar and it's just the chaotic madness that he always brought. He seems like another one of those split personality guys. The most terrifying version of "everyone has a plan untillthey get punched in the mouth."

He's a cool little clip of Don Frye talking about the first time he met Wanderlei.

I cannot come up with a definitive answer here.
I do think Tiger is near the top as Qawi too. Smokin Bert was also a Power lifter pre boxing but he seemed to have gotten bossed around by Mercer in one of my favorite fights.
Really tough question to answer. Alot of times it's the thin guys with that tendon strength who are strong as #### too.
