There's so many different ways to measure that it's very difficult to quantify effective strength in boxing. A guy like Shane Mosley could put up impressive numbers in the weight room, but was pushed around by Winky Wright in the ring.

The "Best I've Faced" articles in the ring are always interesting when it comes to the "strongest" category. There are some interesting picks (Broner for Maidana) but on the whole they reinforce the eye test when it comes to strength.

Khaosai Galaxy (who has had a mention already) is the first one who comes to mind for sheer physical strength pound for pound. In the present day Sor Rungvisai seems to have some similar qualities.

There isn't much footage on which to judge, but Sandy Saddler was always regarded as incredibly strong for featherweight.

Jose Manuel Urtain was freakishly strong, as you'd expect from a guy who specialised in rock-lifting.

Yes, there are a lot of contenders for "strongest" for sure...I was watching another two middleweights fight the other night...Alan Minter and Mustafa Hamsho...they both qualify for contention as well.

you have to go with Foreman, since heavyweight if they weigh more that the opponent, it must be like fighting a tree.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cooper were stronger than Mercer. Didn't seem like he really much of an effort to stand up to Mercer in the clinch or to push him back, whereas Mercer was constantly leaning into him with all of his weight and shoving him.

I never said he was as strong as a bodybuilder when he was a boxer, its just a fact that he boxed before he got into lifting weights seriously.

Then it makes no sense that you mention him here because he was a skinny guy when he was boxer
