OK, guys, I know its hard, but be objective. Who was the more competitive and skillled (live) opponent, Forbes vs Oscar or Gomez vs Cotto? Two contender champs fighting out of their leagues. I thought Gomez would be the one putting up a tough fight but it turned out to be Forbes. What do you think?
Hard To Tell Since Gomez Fought A Very Talented Young Champ And Forbes Fought An Over The Hill O Hoya. One Of Those Things You Will Never Know.
Forbes is a far more skilled fighter then Gomez. Forbes would cause Cotto some problems as well. Forbes is a good fighter, but he has no power which I believe is the reason that Oscar was looking at him, and Paulie Maggs for this fight. HBO will sell that he was looking for someone that could get him ready for a rematch with Floyd but that wasnt it.
forbes is the better boxer, he'd be a better boxer if he had power. If the two ever fight i'd favor forbes to outbox him even at 147 base on their last performance
This is hard? :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl, some Cotto nuthuggers are getting out of hand. It's definitely Forbes and BY FAR too. Gomez wasn't an opponent, he was a punching bag brought to make Cotto look good, that fight shouldn't have been counted on his resume, that's how pathetic and embarrassing that fight was. Forbes came and gave it his all, he actually punched back at Oscar and MADE him work. Did Gomez do anything worth mentioning apart from going down?, the list of bums on Cotto's resume are getting out of hand. Even the commentators couldn't help but say "In such a decent division this is the only guy they found for him?"
Everyone knew Forbes was a handy wee operator before the Contender, and had the pedigree (ex-World Champion). Forbes over Gomez.
Gomez offered less competition than the last 10 guys Cotto fought, Forbes on the other hand showed some good skills and gave Oscar a good fight. So judging by that it has to be Forbes.
You my friend have been disqualified. So who are these bums? From December 2006 to November 2007 Cotto beat 3 top 10 WW (Quintana,Zab,Mosley) including a tough mandatory in Oktay Urkal. And two world title holders(Torres,Malignaggi) at 140 who are rated in their top 10 of the division they fight in, Cotto has also beaten. So please kill your hate for Cotto.
I think the guy deserved to be disqualified as well. There is a lot of Cotto hugging going on - far too much IMO, but to suggest he has too many bums on his record is ridiculous. Gomez was a tomato can, no doubt, and had lost to guys I consider bums - for me, the fight should never have been sanctioned. Forbes on the other hand, had been robbed against Demetrius Hopkins, and never KO'd or even decked in his career, and was a good opponent.
Its different. Forbes is a few levels above in the skill department, but Gomez is bigger. But Gomez had absolutely nothing that could have possibly trouble Cotto. It turns out that Cotto was the bigger, stronger, more aggressive, more skilled and much faster and quicker fighter. He isn't a slick defender either so giving up speed and power advantages, he was a sitting duck and a much easier stoppage then Forbes. Forbes, while just as outgunned in the size, power and speed has defensive savvy and is well schooled by the mayweathers in the skill department. Roger mayweather said the first time he saw Stevie he said he would make him a world champion, that is how skilled he thought he was. And that is coming from one of the most arrogant men from the most arrogant family in boxing. When a fighter, even old and past it, that possesses those kind of skills goes in and tries not to be stopped....it is hard to stop him.
Gomez was fighting a better, younger, faster, stronger fighter than Forbes did. If Forbes fought Gomez he wouldve gotten knocked out just like Gomez ... Gomez probably goes further than he did against Cotto against DLH.
No ****ing way. Gomez would've been stopped just as quick, if not quicker against Delahoya and more brutally. **** man, you are unbelievable. How the hell would Gomez deal with Delahoya, he would be getting tagged at will by that jab, the right cross and then by uppercuts and left hooks. His face would be chop meat within 3 rounds and the fight would be stopped or he would be counted out.
