Forbes is obviously a better all round boxer than Gomez who has never beaten a live world rated oponent. Forbes was fighting well above his natural weight and was a world class operatr even before the Contender. Gomez might have a tiny bit more pop in his punches but that means nothing really, Forbes' chin is sold, defensively very good, knows plenty of tricks and has good speed, he'd be a world champ at light welter, I have no doubt about that - I infact would have an outside bet of him beating Ricky Hatton over 12!
Seriously? :rofl Forbes > Gomez. In terms of career, head-to-head ability, likability, performance againt top opp. - everything. :yep
Forbes would chin Gomez to be honest. Cotto could have had him out of there much quicker but spent half the time honing his southpaw skills. DLH could have had him out of there in three as well. Gomez = Tomato can Forbes vs Hatton would be a good fight - I think Forbes would be a fair bit slicker which could trouble Ricky - but as with Paulie lacks sufficient power to keep Ricky off, and will lose, one way or the other, after troubling him for a while.
I think Forbes and Gomez would be a highly competitive, action packed fight. Cotto would have banged out Forbes, too.:smoke:smoke
I actually agrre with you. WOW! It was not about who is better it was about who they were fighting. Cotto KO's them both, Oscar would probably go 12 with both.
After seeing what he has against a truly world class fighter, I don't see how Gomez lasts the distance with Oscar.
Gomez is a total wheelie bin - might be a nice fella and all that, but he shouldn't have been in there. Both Cotto and Bob Arum ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Forbes was, and would still be a much more complicated task than Gomez for either Cotto or De La Hoya.
What the **** are you smoking??? :tired Cotto wouldn't lose a single round to Forbes and he would methodically beat Forbes ass down over the course of the fight forcing the docs to stop it.
Styles make fights. Cotto would just walk through everything Forbes threw and beat him down, he wouldn't be as cautious as Oscar. Forbes is better defensively than Gomez, but has zero power and is smaller in general. It would be over in about the same amount of time as the Gomez fight.
This is an easy one for a change. Forbes did much better than Gomez but mostly based on his opponent - Oscar De La Hoya - put Alfonso Gomez in there in Carson, California against Hoya and they would go the full 12 rounds the same way. On short contrast, put Steve Forbes in AC against Cotto and it wouldn't go the full 12... Bottom line, Cotto beats any opponent Hoya may beat and in much more impressive fashion. Does Cotto has a better chance against Mayweather than Hoya has? Of course, he does!
