I remember reading this article back when newspapers were huge and it had perspectives of all different referees from all different sports in it, football, cricket umpire etc., was really good. The boxing referee talked about how he stopped a fight based upon a noise a fighter made. He said it was a "crying sound", like a sound of deep distress where he might have looked like he was still in the fight but sounded upset. He said after that fight there were no objections from the fighter or their corner but they could have made it difficult for him because of the optics. However, when he heard that sound, he knew it was right. I basically won't ever try to dog a referee based upon a wrong call, a single "wrong" Call how it looks from my armchair. I need to see a consistent body of evidence before i'll personally start talking about brown envelopes or (as in the case i'm about to show) sheer stupidity. This content is protected The interview at the end is Jim Gray's finest moment. Mora later admitted he'd got it badly, badly wrong and claimed to be "haunted" by it.
Watching it live was the single craziest thing i've done as a boxing fan, it was wilder than fan man live.
Doesn't matter if there's one second left. Ref isn't there to give the benefit of the doubt based on a few secondsd left. Every second is to be judged/reffed the same.
Did Fitch ask him if he was OK to check his response, or even examine him in any way? He was still on his feet. Seemed like a quick pull to me. And in conjunction with the insanely biased commentary and the Ackerman scorecard, there's some smoke there.
LOL and you're talking to me? You know that I read your posts with an outrageous fake Scots accent in my head, right? I did not see the whole fight, only the bit with the KD in it. If it happened like you said then I cede to logic. I still don't think it was a great stoppage though.
He also ruled the cut an accidental headbutt when a corrupt referee would likely have ruled it deliberate, though that one is trickier. The referee might have made a mistake but evidence of corruption is thin based on how the fight played out.
OK fair enough then I guess. All I have to say is that referees generally give a fighter a count when knocked down and a chance to continue, especially is they have been putting up a great fight till that moment. According to the RBR it was that. Bad decision it is.
I agree with Chavez stopping Taylor and I agree with this one here. Taylor is a more obvious call as he doesn't answer when questioned. But this one, we have a guy draped over the top rope with a dodgy knee and he's being wailed on by a professional boxer. I don't care how long was left in the fight, a fighter has to be in a position to continue and he clearly wasn't.
I call BS.. this is a championship fight. Both of the fighters have fought their heart out for nearly 12 rounds. Yes.. Kholmatov was hurt, no denying that, but he was not being battered in the corner. I would prefer the fight to be ended naturally.
I salute you sir.. you are one of a handful only to pick Ford to win in the League but stated that the stoppage was questionable.
Sounds like some of you savages would've preferred to watch that man take uncontested head shots when be was clearly running for his life already with his back completely turned to his opponent. That body language said exit stage right. Now you want the champ in a title fight to get the benefit of a doubt but that was a dangerous position even if it was seconds left. The ref possibly saved his life.
