The 1th and 12th were closer rounds IMO. I reckon you could reasonably score the 12th to Briggs because he landed some bombs that shook Goerge. The 1st round could have reasonably been scored a draw, but I would rather give it to George because he was the aggressor.
I watched it a long time ago. Always felt George won it - it wasn't a robbery there were a couple of close rounds both had their moments and there were a couple of rounds you could pick what you liked. I had it by 2 to George. The disrespect shown to Briggs on the HBO comms was unreal. You wouldn't have thought he was in the fight at times. That being said the Claxton card of Briggs by 8 rounds was also a joke. Foreman - Briggs r1.9 10 Battle of the jabs, Briggs edged it r2.10 9 Foreman edging closer, landing more r3.10 9 Foreman with big punches in the first half of the round. r4.10 9 Foreman with big punches in the first half of the round. r5.9 10 A close round where Briggs landed some good single shots late in the round r6.9 10 Briggs best round so far, landed so decent left hooks and Foreman's jab went missing r7.9 10 Briggs edging it with decent work rate and some work inside r8.10 9 Foremans jab and power shots land throughout r9.10 9 Some attritiononal inside fighting, Foreman probably landing the better punches r10.10.9 Briggs started well, Foreman's jab reeled him in, Briggs finished strong. r11.9 Foreman mauling in and taking the fight to close quarters both have moments but its Foreman who wants it at this distance r12. 9 Briggs moving away early, Foreman still having success with the jab and the right and hooks in close, with a minute left Shannon lands some good shots but Foreman is always able to answer with something. 115 113 big George
I watched this fight with the sound off this time. I've watched it at least a half dozen times total. Round 1: Briggs due to being busier. Foreman looks like he just woke up. Round 2, 3, and 4 for George Round 5 Draw. Foreman was very much the aggressor, Briggs did too much backing up and it affected the potency of his punches. Foreman's forward motion really helped his jab and even though I thought George had overall the more effective punches I'll give Shannon the benefit of a doubt, as he threw plenty of punches (again, none really seeming to move George much). Round 6 for Foreman. I can't keep giving the nod to Briggs when he spent the majority of the time being backed up and generally outmaneuvered by Foreman. Whenever the latter landed the jab it made an obvious impression on Briggs and kept him moving away. I admit, to me the challenger almost always needs to take the title from the champion, but this kind of backing up doesn't exactly make Briggs look like he's winning. Just getting away from that ponderous yet evilly accurate jab again and again. Round 7 for Foreman, who turned it on hard at the end and landed some great jabs. Briggs is simply not landing anywhere near as effectively, always getting moved back. Round 8 for George all the way. Briggs looks really bad here, taking a couple of very ugly rights. Round 9 Briggs actually lands some effective punches. I thought this was the round Foreman took a rest. Round 10 Briggs landed real wekk toward the end, though George got in some heavy shots as well. I'll edge it for Briggs. Round 11 to George closely. Round 12 George. Briggs did get a bit of a late rally, but at times Foreman was punching him across the ring. 8-3-1 Foreman took the fight to Briggs throughout, broke his nose, jabbed the living bejesus out of him, landed flush with many heavy, heavy blows. I remember when this fight happened, I was thinking George might lose because of his poor showings against Schulz and Savarese (couldn't knock Lou out? really?). I was astonished he could be so effective against a "live" opponent who had good power and a decent jab (when he deigned to use it). This content is protected
I think it's a closer fight than people make out but i don't see an argument for Briggs getting the W maybe a draw though. But as i've previously said before Foreman got the benefit of the doubt in 3 other decisions in the 90s the Schulz fight especially was a far worse decision than the Briggs one so it evens itself out. Here's how i had all of Foreman's decisions in the 90s BTW. George Foreman vs Shannon Briggs 1 Briggs 2 Foreman 3 Foreman 4 Foreman 5 Foreman 6 Briggs 7 Briggs 8 Foreman 9 Foreman 10 Briggs 11 Briggs 12 Foreman 115-113 Foreman George Foreman vs Lou Savarese 1 Savarese 2 Foreman 3 Savarese 4 Foreman 5 Savarese 6 Savarese 7 Savarese 8 Savarese 9 Foreman 10 Foreman 11 Foreman 10-8 point deduction 12 Foreman 114-113 Foreman George Foreman vs Axel Schulz 1 Schulz 2 Foreman 3 Schulz 4 Schulz 5 Schulz 6 Foreman 7 Foreman 8 Schulz 9 Schulz 10 Schulz 11 Foreman 12 Schulz 116-112 Schulz George Foreman vs Alex Stewart 1 Foreman 2 Foreman 10-7 2 knockdowns 3 Foreman 4 Stewart 5 Foreman 6 Stewart 7 Stewart 8 Foreman 9 Stewart 10 Stewart 10-8 point deduction 94-93 Foreman
Foreman won that fight robbery !!!! And I was rooting for Briggs at the time !!! But foreman lost to Shultz another robbery
I had Foreman winning wide to be honest. I am admittedly pretty bad at scoring fights but I struggled to see Foreman not winning this.
I had it 8-4 Foreman so more or less the same. I thought Foreman looked sharp especially for his age.
