I think George was at his best in this fight. His jab was brutal and he really bullied Chuvalo. What do you think would have happened with him and big Lennox?
How hard was it to outbox Chuvalo? George was in decline by then anyway, he had that fluke win over Quarry the previous year , but he was on the downside as far as top opponents went by 1970.His no 7 ranking in 1970 flattered him, [the result of the Quarry fight].Against the no 2 he wasn't in it, he hadnt been ranked in 69, and would not be ranked again. George v Lennox would be a war no doubt, but Foreman had an opponent to make him look good that night.
Fair comment. I also think it shows that Foreman could do more than just bang, though. In some later fights he completely neglected the jab.
Foreman stopped Chuvalo in his 22nd fight. In Lewis's 22 fight he was 6 months away from taking out Ruddock in 2 rds. How do you think Chuvalo would have done against him?
I think Foreman at this time would be a tough match up for Lewis. Lewis has better craft and is very powerful himself so of course he could possibly defeat Big George but I see a young Foreman being to aggressive and using his jab to hurt and push back Lewis. I see Lewis getting busted up by the jab and though holding his own for most of the fight I think he'd crumble from the pressure of the hard hitting super aggressive young Foreman. I see Lewis getting knocked out in around the 5th or 6th round after finding himself hurt and trapped against the ropes and Foreman landing a barrage of big shots.
