Shocking. It’s shocking because he’s been a fixture (particularly in our little world) for eons. He seemed like part of a landscape rather than just flesh and blood. Our mistake.

Way to work, George. You took hold of the reins and never let go.

    RIP George Foreman.

    I´m completely gutted.

Got into boxing during the start of his comeback. He was a bit of a laughing stock for the serious boxing scribes at the start but he ignored them and even used it against them by eating cheeseburgers.

Always left you with a smile on your face and when he destroyed Coonery in such emphatic fashion people started taking him seriously.

Thinking back to his fight with Holyfield, he was quite incredible the way he cameback from some of those combinations. Evander had to be at his best to win that one.

The struggle and facial damage to Alex Stewart and then the Morrison loss was heartbreaking for me.

Wanted him to retire but then the Moorer miracle.

From Down goes Frazier to Down goes Moorer flat on his back.

What a wonderful career and life. A real legend.

    RIP to an absolute legend.

Actually, legend might be an understatement.

"Condolences to George Foreman's family,” Tyson said on social media, paying tribute. “His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.”

The casual fan only knows him as a cuddly Mr Stay Puft, jolly fellow who hawked grills, mufflers and anything else he could sign a million dollar contract for - in the 70s, he was (sometimes, not always - there are interviews where he's relaxed and nice) a surly force of destruction in the heavyweight division. He'd have scared Tyson out of the ring. And while his dismantling of Frazier was the stuff of legend, and the most frequently cited moment of his boxing career, it was his actions after the similar destruction of Ken Norton, also undefeated - after the KO, instead of the standard going-to-the-corner-of-the-losing-fighter-to-offer-respect, etc, Foreman stalked over and GLARED at Norton with an unmistakable look in his eye: "Don't even THINK of getting in the ring with me again!" It was chilling ...

But the guy he became after he found religion was calmer, more relaxed and open - if you get a chance, the video "Champions Forever" shows him in his best light. There's even banter between him and Norton - (as I can best recall)

Norton: "My plan was to back up and back up and counterpunch"

George: "You backed into my right hand!"

    Norton: "You old fart!"

    RIP champ ---

IMO if you could have put old George’s brain in young George’s body, you’d have the absolute GOAT.

Only stopped once in 81 fights. That's mind-blowing.
