He never showed the control, focus, determination and over all ability that he did in this fight ... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgBQJsq7Vjs&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izXsavjk6po[/ame]
George sure was patient, determined and controlling in that 2nd fight..almost giving a glimpse of the style he would adopt after his comeback in '87.
Well, it was Frazier's lack of good judgement in taking the fight, and esp. showing up for it in such less than stellar shape...and nothing can detract therefore, from Foreman's more patient, disciplined performance.
Whatever shape Frazier was in he couldn't do nothing with Foreman here. Has RC says George showed great patience, was timing Joe's weaving well and rarely missed. Just a matter of time before he caught him with something big. Give Joe credit for lasting longer than the first fight but George was too big and strong.
Frazier showed up looking like a bloated whale because he knew that he didn't have a hope in hell against George Foreman. Why put in the effort into training for a fight that you know you can't win? Frazier was on his way out and Foreman was the only guy that could guarantee him one final major payday. Only the the threat of his title being stripped and one large cheque to ride into the sunset with could get Frazier in the same ring as a puncher.
Frazier looked like a fat harpooned whale that night. I don't know how too impressive George could have been.
Good points. As other posters noted; Foreman looked great that night against Frazier; however, how high can we grade Foreman's performance, knowing that Frazier was already going downhill?
The same Joe Frazier had just given Muhammad Ali the toughest fight of his life and came within a hair of defeating him for a second time ... yes he was heavier but it was a strategic decision, believing he'd hold up better ... he did put up a much better fight ... Foreman e=was simply amazing, his best fight of his first career ... his jab, his concentration, his speed, his combination punching , his body work were amazing ...
Good boxing is good boxing. This might be the best craft young George showed. Frazier, though a spent force physically and in sorry shape, still had all his skills and a gameplan. George didnt initially overpower him or pressure his wind away, he outboxed him and clipped him. Not the best win considering Frazier's decline, but a fine performance from a purely technical standpoint.
