Foreman from the Michael Moorer fight vs David Haye

I was speaking to my dad today about Moorer and how he lost to George. I don't think Haye's chin is as bad people felt it was including his own trainer who convinced him it was made of china. He can take a dig as seen against Wlad but George hit ****ing hard, cannot see Haye taking them shots well at all.

He'd have to circle using lateral movement and shoot in at angles with quick punches which would land. Never a fan of Georges cross arm defence and Haye would look to pick pocket the fight on points.

George would slowly walk him down, letting his hands go when he gets in range. Haye would land and land well but he's got minimal output so he'd only do so much. I think his speed would carry him through the first half of the fight then it's down to if's and buts IMO.

George was extremely slow and pawing against Moorer till he slowed and started to stand in front of George. That's the problem with Haye in this fight because he struggles to continue lateral movement and also the sheer concentration he'd have to have would fatigue him.

 

If only Moorer had been able to master the strange and arcane art of circling counter-clockwise...bizarre bit of decision making from a boxer that should've really known better by that point. Throughout he keeps drifting into Foreman's shots rather than away. Bit of converted lefty habit perhaps?

 

If you dont think Haye would be 2nd in that list behind Lewis then you are obviously a troll. Tyson was beaten by a cabbie, Holyfield had a glass ear, Bowe liked throwing things in the bin, and Bruno's laugh wouldnt get him out of trouble against an ATG puncher who took Wlad's best shots only to be robbed on the cards!!!!!

Atlas told Moorer to up the tempo, fight a amateur style fight for final three rounds but also told him what Foreman was going to do, sadly Michael didn't listen and George did exactly what Teddy said he was trying to do.

Moorer's one of those frustrating fighters, talented but a enigma.

 

Foreman lands at some point, putting Haye on ***** street. Foreman KO8.

 

DamonD: agreed, but I doubt Haye would attain that leek in that era.

Scotty: Good point on the Shulz fight. Again, I'm not sure Haye is all that.

Haye might win, but it'd be with a horrid performance. In fact I really don't rate his HW style at all, it was cynical.

 

Cynical is quite a good word....

He just didn't have any confidence in his ability to take a whack and fire back, and as such spent most of his time running. That was until he hurt somebody, causing all composure to go out of the window.

At the end of the day he sold himself out of what could have been a really good career for the fast buck. He stopped doing what made him so good at cruiser and stank the joint out on multiple occasions to boot.

 

Haye can be quite hard to hit, one of his best attributes (even if it can make for boring fights). Old Forman wasn't known for his speedy hands and footwork.

I don't know how to vote. Either Haye points or Foreman KO, think it's a toss up tbh

Moorer was brillient at light heavy. Left a lot of legacy on the table, when he moved up to chase that moolah.

 

Teddy always has a laugh when Moorer is giving instructions out in the corner on FNFs. He keeps brings up the fact he never listened to anything he told him in the corner:yep

I don't think Haye is all that either but man was George slow at the end!
