Great article about fight that was scheduled on Jan23, 1999. Read here What do you guys think about this fight? Foreman's purse was 10 mln, Holmes - 4 mln. It should've been PPV ($39,95) Interestingly, main financial backer of the fight (with $12.6 mln) pulled out when Tyson-Botha PPV Showtime fight was scheduled on Jan16. Also it should be noted that in 1997 Foreman was robbed vs Shannon Briggs while Holmes was robbed vs Brian Nielsen (both fights were clear 'W' for almost 50 year old fighters).
Prime for prime I would have picked Holmes. But in 1999 it seemed pretty even and in fact might have leaned towards foreman by a decision or maybe even late stoppage. Holmes jab and footwork had diminished horribly by that point. Foreman's power had taken a step back too but I think he might have had enough left in the tank to pull out one last win. Of course needless to say the result would have meant diddly
I don't think either guys are getting stopped in this one. I can see holmes for long periods of the fight getting off with his jab and foremen trundling forward catching most on the cross armed defence. Maybe foreman catching Larry a few times to stun him but unable to break through with any thing meaningful. So at end of twelve would be holmes hand raised
