Perry is saying that Peralta had a similar weight to Tunney and still posed challenges. And therefor one shouldn't discount Tunney on weight alone, since he was far better than Peralta. People give Tyson crap for going the distance a few times in his prime. Imagine if it Peralta took him the distance?
Peralta DID last the distance with Foreman....cut his eye and completely exhausted George in the process. The decision was widely booed by the crowd although press row had it lopsided for George. Again we do know the best boxers, technical boxers, who fought Foreman in his prime beat him and beat him going away. PRIME Tunney far outclasses Young in all departments technically AND most would say he also outclasses the Ali who fought Foreman in most all technical areas. Tunney is a shoe in to win this one.
Since my original post, i've watched Foreman's fight v Young. Once he starts to struggle he exhibits that strange kind of stepping motion that he did in Zaire. He sort of moves with short high steps like a dressage horse and looks like he's off balance. It's a strange motion but overall his demeanour v Young starts to look similar to Zaire, without looking quite so tired.I've looked up all i can find re - quotes from George. The most bizzare re- the Young fight was " The promoter asked me not to finish it early,it costs them advertising revenue, so when i had him going in round 7 i thought of that, i let him off and after that i just couldnt catch him again". !! My original point about Zaire was that there seemed to be a very quiet acceptance of the fight sliping away from those around him, just struck me as a little odd. It wouldnt have taken a genius to advise George to back off a while. The more i watch Foreman part 1 though, the guy lead with his face and never moved his head. Ali / Lyle/ Young. I never realised he had such glaring deficiencies until watching all these over.
Foremans comment regarding letting Young off the hook in round 7 is pure and complete rubbish. He hurt Young terribly to a point where Jimmy stated later he did not think he was going to make it. Foreman tried for the ko desperately and with arms heavy could not summon the strength. Aside from that round it was Youngs fight pretty much all the way. I remember watching this bout live as a huge Young fan.....super exciting.
