Foreman was competitive in spurts, but it was clear that he was looking for a single shot. This was a bold move as everyone had classified Foreman as a clubber who had to overwhelm his opponents with punches in order to stop them.

Moorer was helping Foreman to an extent by putting himself out there and fighting a stupid fight at times, but I give him credit for trying to look impressive against the older man unlike many of the champions who are content on going for a points win against an opponent that they can easily outbox from a distance. He was trying to show that he was a champion to be taken seriously, he just wasn't.

 

Yeah but he could have fought the exact fight, just changing his movement patterns and he would have cruised to victory. The fact it took George so long to capitalize on Moorers mistakes is really telling as to how slow he was. I think it was Clancy who kept commenting that the openings were there and George could see them but he was just too slow to "pull the trigger" as he called it.

 

Me too. I couldn't believe it and I was happy for George but I was also embarrassed for Moorer

I wonder how the perception of Moorer would change, if at all if he had outpointed George more clearly then Holyfield. :think:think

Also, if the perception of him having a weak chin would change at all.

 

From and emotional point of view, that fight is top notch, like watching Rocky

From a pure boxing point of view, it is so and so; Foreman's willpower against the cocky champion, that gets himself KOed

 

Foreman was dead tired in that 10th round. He fell off balance a few times swinging for the fences with left hooks. I can't believe Moorer just stood there, right in front of the guy. George got a gift against Moorer. Both in terms of the title shot itself and Moorer's fight strategy. And then George crapped on the championship by selecting Schultz as his first defense. He was hoping to defend against Tyson for mega bucks, and he didn't want to fight anyone good...And yet Axel still kicked his butt. Shameful period in heavyweight history thanks to reverend George!

 

Short right hand from Foreman. Foreman was much better three years earlier against Holyfield, true, but still one of Moorer's better performances... through nine rounds, that is. Uhm, Moorer is always moving to his right to land that very nice jab. His problem was when he stopped moving to his right. Short right hand from Foreman.
