Well to Foremans defense, I would say he definitley knew his limitations. I dont believe him when he says he was setting Moorer up. What I believe was that he was determined to try and land the shot he knew would work, and that pretty much went for all his fights on the comeback trail. To stand in there for 10 rounds and take that kind of beating was impressive. Mentally I think George thought to himself, Im going to get my ass kicked, but I got to keep trying to land something to win this title. That was the impressive part of Foremans comeback in my opinion, because if a fighter of George's stature at the time, entered the ring thinking he could dominate and beat up these younger guys, he could never get as far as he did, he would have quit in the ring long before the fight with Moorer.
Moorer pasted Foreman real good in 1994 for 9 rds, but Stewart earlier in 1992 still painted Foreman's face the worst during Foreman's comeback return.... I think Foreman takes a helluva punch... Only Ron Lyle decked Foreman with real power... But Foreman got up to win... Ali and Young dropped a seriously fatigued Foreman in 1974 and 1977.... MR.BILL
Yeah but the fight with Moorer was one sided for the most part. The mental part of that kind of whooping is far worse than geting pasted in a competitive fight.
Aside from the "Points" issue, I always felt Foreman was in the fight with Moorer in 1994.... Moorer was winning most of the rds, but Foreman was right there in the pocket engaging Moorer without let-up... I know it may seem like a cop-out here in '10, but I sensed Foreman was gonna do something big in rds 10 thru 12.... As it turned out, Foreman came out with all guns blazing in round 10.... Foreman was easily winning round 10 right up to the KO.... Note: Moorer took two wicked-ass hooks from Foreman prior to getting KO'd by the straight right cross on the button....... MR.BILL
Funny stuff. I got into a nasty argument with another spectator during that fight... nasty, raw argument. That was no fun. On and on. He kept going on about Moorer, of course, but I kept telling him, "Look at the patience Foreman is showing! That will pay off! Just wait and see!" 'Not too hard to imagine how that whole thing developed, and then ended. I would take anything Moorer and Atlas now have to say about that fight, veterans that they are, with a grain of salt.
George landed two big left hooks near the midway point of the 10th round and then watch how Moorer never takes a step forward from that point on until George finishes him off. So he was hurt before the finishing blows. That was no lucky punch Foreman landed as Moorer would later claim.
I'm doing the fight review right now cuz I'm bored shitless... I gotta pint of booze going too... Later on I have a tape from 1939: "Son of Frankenstein" with Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi as 'Igor'... I'm gearing up for Halloween.... MR.BILL
Lol your crazy Mr Bill, good stuff! This fight is good, Foreman with the one punch that wrote him into the history books, despite his 8 round face-beating Good for foreman bad for moorer? Or bad for foreman good for moorer?
would of been great if george would have retired then and their...Schultz left a bad taste..but hey..at least the "loss" he went out on...to briggs...was more like a win.
Foreman grossed 10 mill. for Schulz; 3 mill. for Grimsley; 5 mill. for Savarese and 7 mill. for his last fight with Briggs in 1997... That's a shitload of cash after kayoing Moorer in 1994....... MR.BILL
What, no "Frankenstein vs. the Wolfman"? Foreman was waiting... knowing he was gonna catch that guy. That's just how I saw it during the fight, and so I can still say it now. Let's recap: Foreman SPLIT-LIP Moorer 10. Moorer was foolish to think he could KO that Foreman. The guy was an oak tree. Anyway, it's a classic fight that I won't hardly watch except to see Moorer's heavy duty jabbing skills... or the SPLIT-LIP KO.
I also have "Franky vs. Wolfy" from '43 too... I viewed it last night...:good "Foreman-Moorer" is a personal fav. of mine...:thumbsup MR.BILL:hat
