February 29, 1996: George Foreman (Linear Champion) vs. Michael Moorer, New York, New York. This bout was scheduled but not held.

Any thoughts on how this one might have gone?

Moorer managed to outbox George for most of their first meeting, until he got careless and decided to go for the knockout - A mistake I don't think he duplicates..

    Moorer W 12...

Have to agree with that one. I honestly would like to have seen a rematch between Briggs and Foreman. That result was ridiculous.

I'm thinking that Big George would have still won this when scheduled...just my gut feeling on the matter...wouldn't have bet money on it.

Fight # 1 of 1994 was a GREAT fight for heavyweight boxing. It is ONE of my favorite fights to review even today in 2010. Foreman scoring a come-from-behind KO over Moorer is perhaps the greatest sports comeback of all-time.?.? I LOVE THAT FIGHT!

NOW!! The rematch of '96 would've fizzled / stunk... Moorer had a glass-jaw, but, he was very skilled in a technical sense....... Come 1996, he had become more and more lazy according to Ted Atlas, but for Foreman, Moorer would've been motivated..... I see Moorer being cautious and focused and painting a slower Foreman like a portrait..... In 1996, Moorer wins a dull but convincing decision over a slow but powerful Foreman.....

I sensed that Foreman did some soul searching and saw the light and decided to bypass Moorer the second time around in 1996......... Foreman knew Moorer was fragile, yet skilled....... Had Moorer NOT gotten cocky and lazy in 1994, he'd have soundly won a decision there in Vegas......

I still believe my man Foreman haired out against Holmes in 1999 as well......... Foreman claimed the $$$ was not there.......... Partly true............ The original 10 mill was NOT there cuz of a poor promotion..... BUT! 6 mill was still there for Foreman to take, but Foreman balked at 6 million dollars......... WTF?

Holmes was initially scheduled to gross 4 million, but Holmes was still WILLING to accept a pay-cut and fight Foreman for 2.5 million dollars........

Foreman pulled the plug and cancelled............

While I have always given Moorer more durability points than most (never thought he was greatly durable, but always thought more than given credit for) I have to agree with this statement. Moorer went into lala land but I think he would've been sharp as a razor blade for a Foreman rematch too. Moorer had an unfairly overlooked career. His flaws overshadowed his achievements. But really, look at the three guys who stopped him. Foreman and Tua are two of the most feared HW punchers...ever. And Holy is a relentless future HOFer that he had once defeated also. And the lala land business he had mentally, he still went 50-4 and is a four-time world champ in two of the traditional eight.

this one is hard to figure. A great fighter like Holyfield would be able to stay away those last 2 rounds he did not in the first fight, but Moorer never proved he could improve. Holyfield is the one who stopped Moorer after Moorer won the first fight, so Moorer did not improve on his first fight and Evander was greater and could, which is always the mark of a great fighter-adjustment. I think Foreman would stop Moorer again. Moorer's chin is just not that great.

I agree, Moorer was a slob in 97, but he worked pretty hard to get his title back. George refused to give him a rematch because he knew Moorer would have beat him. Instead he goes after Shultz and suprise! George refused to fight Shultz again for the same reason and vacated, and went back to picking on slow plodders who would stand in front of him. I think the Moorer who defended against Holyfield gets knocked out again, but if Foreman had rematched Moorer immediately I think Moorer wins.

Moorer was porky at 224 pounds for the '97 rematch with Holy, but Moorer was still game and showed heart......... I still say Moorer was naturally trained there while Holy was roided up BIG-TIME! Holy kept dropping Moorer, yet Moorer kept rising...... Holy was a good puncher; never a great puncher......

I thought the "Holy-Moorer 2" fight of 1997 was very good..........

Moorer was a chump......a south paw heavyweight, an abomination. He was gifeted the Holyfield decisions. It was a total low point in boxing when a south paw was the HW champ.

Anyone who could not see Foreman KOing Moorer did not know boxing. Moorer was made to order for big George....he had no patience, could not take a shot, came straight in, and was a south paw so he was walking right into Foreman's power.......rematch, same thing all over......:good
