I've felt so horrible about Joe Frazier's passing since it happened (worse than I felt about some of the relatives and friends who've passed since November), but this interview done on a radio program with George about Joe and his passing is one of the more unintentionally funny things I've heard from Big George. Well-meant, but outright absurd, his talk of the Frazier and Ali relationship. Have a listen, you'll see what I mean when you get to that part. Classic Older Foreman, really. I loved it BE but my favorite part was the humble brag in which he compares himself to King Kong. "Frazier wouldn't back down from King Kong. I should know..."
Did he really say THAT? George said that Joe wouldn't back down from King Kong, he should know. So not quite the same as Denzel in "Training Day".
Well, if the rumours about him making the niknik with Jessica Lange that I've just recently started are true then he's got every right to throw that one down. :hey George wouldn't phrase it that way, no. He paraphrased Liston in his autobio with "blankety-blank" a few times.
I think Foreman meant both. A huge compliment to Frazier and to himself. Remember he forced Frazier to turn boxer in the second fight. And literally run for his life in the first. Foreman and Jessica Lange. Scandal!
I don't think Foreman was comparing himself to King Kong. He was just trying to say that Frazier wouldn't back away from anybody, and he should know. He goes on to tell how Frazier kept getting up and coming after him when he was knocking him down. It came out like he was tooting his own horn, but I don't think he meant it that way. The old Foreman tends to be over complimentary to his old foes. Whomever he is asked about he says they were the greatest and bravest man he ever knew. I've heard him say the same thing about Ali. Occasionally his resentment about his loss to Ali creeps in even though he does his best to mask it. It's hard to tell what he really thinks. He isn't going to speak badly about anyone.
Its possible and honestly half the time I don't know what Foreman means (although I think he knows moore about boxing than we think) so I could've misinterpreted.
The important thing is his torrid affair with Jessica Lange though. Let's not lose sight of that, gentlemen. "When I was doing the infamous sex scene from The Postman Always Rings Twice with Jack Nicholson, and everyone was talking about my chemistry with Jack, I was thinking about Big George the entire time. He was my inspiration. Then my most intense lover. And my cricket teacher." ~Jessica Lange, January 1989 issue of Cricket Lovers Monthly
Did he just imply that Joe had a man-crush on Ali? Don't really think that's Joe's idea of getting his memory honoured.
Yeah, Big George must be a tough act to follow.:yep Think it's a much more shocking revelation that he was into cricket than that he humped Lange, though.
That doesn't shock me. But I was surprised when they ceased publication of Cricket Lovers Monthly, shortly afterward. :scaredas:
