Holyfield, who's fought Tyson and Lewis, said Foreman was the hardest puncher he's ever fought, while Ali, who's fought both men and Liston, said Shavers hit the hardest. So, who was the harder puncher between them? I say Foreman, because his power is more proven against better competition.
Foreman had more heavy handedness and innate power but was hampered by his lack of speed and sloppy technique. Shavers was more explosive and turned his punches over better/got more of his body behind the shot. Different types of power. Shavers was more likely to stun you or knock you down, but Foreman was more likely to deal out more damage over the course of a fight.
Shavers by a tad. The best we have to go on is testimonies and numerous common opponents all cite Shavers, some convincingly. Both massive punchers.
Shavers is the superior puncher compared to Big George. Liston is 2nd on that list. He had a reputation of breaking facial bones with just a simple jab alone.
I am just glad this isbeing resolved after the Tyson Shavers question was answered. Everyone seemed convinced after that open minded exchange of ideas. Again, I will throw the theory that they both hit so hard that the difference doesn't really matter.
I Would you rather get hit by? A Ford or Chevy? If I had to choose one to get in the ring with I guess I would choose Shavers, Foreman seems more likely to hit you when you were down.
