He beat bums and took 10 rounds to knock them out. Tye Fields can knock out bums too, doesnt really prove much does it.

Bill as i say to all Rocky Marciano fans you are worthless and you are ignored. Find a fighter who wasnt a bum who is only known because he is white and now you get ignored.

Those " washed up hasbeens " were the best in their division at the time, and future all time greats. Walcott was in the best shape of his career at age 37, and had cleaned out the division. A similar case could be made for Ezzard Charles. Archie Moore was one of the greatest light heavyweights of all time, and was fairing pretty well at heavyweight. Roland Lastarza was a decent contender. Joe Louis was shot. No getting around that. But, no matter how you cut it, Marciano was the best of his era and beat all of the best fighters around at the time.

True, but to some extent it has its merits. Especially if you examine greatness based on H2H. The thing is, it's debatable that Foreman mentally broke and fell off worse than Tyson seeing as he went into obscurity after 77 with his lost to Young. But he came back with a vengeance. I don't understand how people rate Liston ahead of Foreman. Only speculative H2H can justify this. And I dig Liston.

Man Pete always makes great post, He is like the son i never had. Liston was a good fighter but his best wins came against Floyd Paterson a super middleweight with a glass chin and Cleveland Williams a limited fighter with over hyped power.

Liston lost only to Muhammad Ali in his prime.

Foreman lost to Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Young.

    Good place to start.

He ranks at 7 in the recent poll we did hear at ESB. That seems about right.

overrated. just a big guy beating smaller.
    and not all of them.
    and that is after picking.
look what happened against ali , who was almost the same size. then jimmy young , holyfield.
foreman was a coward who would never agree to fight someone bigger than himself. and never did. and don't give briggs as an example because he isn't bigger.
look at the problems an asthmatic , fat out of shape qawi gave him.
Foreman and most of the old-timers at any weight but especially hw are over-rated. one should understand that in the old times (before 1950's) , when someone was successful it was because of one or two of the following reasons :
    1. he was bigger
    2. his oposition lacked talent
you can say it about today and it will be true , but , in those ancient times there were much fewer people on earth and less boxers and the knowledge about training techniques , fighting techniques , cheating techniques , diets , etc was much more limited and far less accessible than today and only those who had it had the chance.
it was much more difficult to learn about those things then in comparison to now.
