Tyson was far too much for old foreman just like he was far too much for old larry. Old george had enough mental strength to be a good mid level contender in the wrong era but thats it. when he later won the title it was only because he got to moorer before anyone else. Earlier george just figured he might have a 50-50 chance if Tyson under rated him. just chancing his arm. There is no way on earth old foreman could have done any better than frank brunos stand against Tyson in 1990.

george always knew he was a peg behind fighters like douglas, bowe, lewis and ruddock and would not have wanted bonecrusher, witherspoon or bruno. -as a younger man he did not want Larry holmes thats why he stayed retired so long. Old george always knew his limitations but had access to big fights because he had a gimmick chic.

    Oh dear.

Douglas wouldn't even have gone down as a notable victory.

Thats how he caught everyone out. quietly douglas was facing live rated guys and beating them outside of the spotlight - eventualy he would have reverted back to type but leading up to the Tyson fight he was a genuine seasoned threat that nobody had considered. Buster had the goods at that time. more than old foreman ever did.

He fought a great fight but he was not a great fighter.

Like rahman. Great for one night but not for a career.

douglas was always better than rahman, he was more of an un-tapped talent than rahman. Years earlier Douglas, as an unknown, beat a rated tex cobb on two days notice and became the first non champion to beat him. Also 24-4 Greg page was in shape and hungry with something to prove against buster. Greg was having his first fight after closely losing his title to tubbs when douglas beat him. So had page fought douglas one fight earlier Buster really would have been WBA champ as early as 1985!so the talent was always there. He just was not bank rolled as a star from the begining.

both rahman and douglas had a plan to take the champion out of his comfort zone and exposed better fighters for one night. Rahman had a great punch and came to fight against lewis but there wasnt so much on his resume to predict this at this point. Lewis had already beat better fighters than rahman where as we did not realise Tyson had not beat anyone better than a 1990 Douglas.

who among Tyson’s victims was better and more proven than Douglas? Larry Holmes was back from a two year fishing trip and had not fought a rated HW FOR YEARS, Thomas had not fought a rated fighter since berbick beat him, Spinks was a reluctant LH who froze. Tubbs was so serious he put on weight so he couldn’t get his bonus.

At least Bruno, berbick and Biggs were live opponents but Douglas would always have been a match for all of them. I would not say they were better or more proven than douglas.

Yes Tucker beat a good Douglas but he was not outclassed, buster was winning when he imploded. I would take Douglas over Tucker in a rematch at the time.

Altogether Douglas fought 6 unbeaten fighters before his first title fight, 5 "at the time" rated contenders and 3 world champions. that’s a beter resume than mike dokes, page and tubbs right there!

Your rating of douglas is so comical I have to conclude you're being a dedicated ironic troll for the purpose of the debate.

Kudos for the determined effort you put in :good

    My prediction?

    Foreman hoooooooooook!

If there's a great heavyweight that old Foreman could beat, Tokyo Tyson was it: an inactive, out of shape and one-dimensional little slugger with a terrible corner vs. a lumbering, hard hitting, aggressive, manhandling and durable behemoth with an ATG corner.

Anyone who thinks that this fight is an easy win for Tyson is delusional.

Douglas didn't "implode" against Tucker... he got caught big & froze against the ropes while hurt, Bruno-style.

Plus it's an opinion, not a fact to say Buster was ahead. It was an even fight, with fair scores of 86-85, 86-86 & 85-86.

I don't think he's being serious. It's an attempt at ironic comedy I think.

^^^ Is exactly how Foreman would look after getting brutally annihilated by Tyson.

That's just stupid!! Sorry but even prime george's skill level wasn't up to douglas! He was just a big powerful winging puncher...Old george's opponents compared to douglas at the same time....Best on his resume leading up to Holyfield...Dwight Qawi..(cruiserweight legend yes..but still a cruiser) and Bert cooper..forget Old man cooney who was shot to ****! Trever Berbick...Tony Tucker....Oliver McCall....Greg Page...doesn't even compare! George picked his opponents very carefully and was a great ticket seller..

Quote George Foreman: There were a couple of times, serious negotiations were going on with the Mike Tyson fight. Mike Tyson just didn’t want to fight me. Not to say he couldn’t have beaten me. I mean, this guy could punch. The bigger they are the harder they’d fall as far as Mike Tyson was concerned. I guess that I have a feeling, his first original trainer and manager Cus D’Amato must have told him about George Foreman’s punching power as though I would never comeback. So sometimes when you come back and a guy remembers those stories, he says to himself, ‘Look, leave that guy alone’. But I don’t think I would have been that much problems to him. I had a good left jab and I’d always do better when guys come to me, but Tyson was pretty smart with his footwork and hand speed. That would have been a tough fight for me.

Straight from the horses mouth...case closed!!!
