Yeah, but people started getting crazy after Foreman starched Gerry Cooney in 1990. Yes, that KO was spectacular, but it came against a rusty, inactive fighter never known for his durability or chin. Looking back, it's amazing that many people, myself included, were taken in by Foreman's schtick and gimmicks.

Louis vs schmeling? baer v braddock, sharkey v carnera, patterson v liston? Liston v ali? holyfeild v moorer and its not just champions who lose who look "crap", prime fighters dont always shine if styles dont mesh like joe louis v godoy the first time, ali against mildenburger? frazier against bonavenna? lennox lewis v mavrovic?

Now, tell me how good you think 1990 george foreman was against a 45lb lighter lakusta and how that man could beat any version of Mike Tyson or even a genuine capable 1990s contender over 230lb?

exactly. There was substance there but it was a lot of schtick and gimmicks too that alowed old foreman to bypass the kinds of contenders he could not beat.

Well max was a great heavyweight himself and louis avenged the loss.

    Ali is an elite atg.

Well how good do you think george looked?

And i'd favour george over any man who got dominated and ktfo by buster douglas.

I think george looked about as good and no better than all the other guys who made hard work of big foot martin -who was a blown up supermidleweight - not a world beater.

Even in 1990, Bowe, Lewis, Ruddock, -- they would have all beaten George. You could probably add Tim Witherspoon, Mike Dokes, and Bonecrusher to that list as well. But props to "Big" George for managing to land a multi-million dollar title shot without having done much to earn it. But I'm sure the other "real" contenders were not happy about that. Business-wise Foreman was great; pugilistically he left a lot to be desired!

without old george fighting the likes of mike tyson, oliver mccall, trevor berbick, greg page and tex cobb we will never know.

By 1990 comeback george was only fighting comeback cooney, aldison rodrigues, big foot martin, and ken lakusta..

Obviously we'll never know. This is why I said i'd favour.

If on the night you get slaughtered by buster, I can see you getting slaughtered by a whole host of people.

Just watched a documentary on tyson and tupac and the way they intertwined.

It showed the fight with bruce, the one that saw mike once again rise to the pinnacle of the division.

Bruce started off pretty good behind the jab ya know and he was strong enough to clinch with mike.

Bruce v tokyo tyson, could look very similar to douglas v tokyo tyson.

Well watch tucker v douglas and tell me buster would ever beat tyson.

Buster was a fringe contender who found himself with a great opportunity that he was able to capitalise on because he was in great shape and was determined.

Seldon had the same gifts as buster imo with easily as good a jab and as good power and speed. He came in great shape but was scared of mike.

There's reason to believe a focused seldon could have prevailed in the same situation as buster had he shared that self belief.
