while I agree with those who say that the longer the fight goes, the more Baer would have a chance, but I just don't see it panning out that way. These two guys were both crude sluggers who would meet in the center of the ring, and before long one of them would drop. I like George Foreman simply because he does everything Baer does, only better. He was the bigger of the two men, probably the harder hitter, had a comparable chin, and was very good at working the body, tying men up on the inside, and had a more effective two fisted attack.

    George Foreman KO 4

I think you would at lest be justified in saying that Baer had the better chin.

I'd be willing to if I had verification of that. But for now I'll say they're comparable.

Baers chin is getting into the Chuvalo category in my humble opinion. He didn't even try too hard to prevent people from hitting it at his peak. The only people who seem to have done anything against it were Louis, and Nova at the very end of his career.

Well George Foreman wasn't exactly Sugar Ray Robinson when it came to dodging punches either. He was stopped only once due to stamina in the latter rounds of a fight with the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. He made it through 81 pro fights without ever being stopped again. Baer was 30-32 years old for his two fights with Nova. Foreman was still taking shots from Shannon Briggs, Evander Holyfield, Alex Stewart, Tommy Morrison, Michael Moorer, Lou Savarese and Gerry Cooney when he was in his 40's and after taking 10 years off from the ring....

I'm actually being generous when I say they're chins are comparable.

While Ali was obviously a great fighter, he was not a puncher like Louis or Nova. Jimmy Young had nothing as a puncher except very good punching form. I think that these guys dropping Foreman has to tip the argument in favour of Baer?

We've had this discussion a few times before.. You seem to feel that cardiovascular stamina is the equivalent of the ability to withstand physical contact against one's body ( chin. ) I don't.. Young and Ali dropped Foreman when he was gassed and totally off balance.. I doubt this would be an issue in a fight with max Baer given that the victor would be decided long before Foreman's stamina gives out. Considering that Foreman was stopped fewer times despite facing a longer list of punchers and into a much more advanced age and with more fights, calling them "comparable" is generous.. Unless given a more compelling argument, I'm standing with that position.

Not giving him a pass for anything. He was stopped. No excuses. His stoppage loss however was for a totally different reason. Max Baer and George Foreman have comparable chins from what I can see, which I believe to be a fair assessment.

I think a case by case is fair .. no doubt Foreman was wiped v.s. both Young and Ali . against Ali many thought he half took a dive he was so punched out .. he was knocked down but was so mind screwed he said f it ..

I do not think Ofreman took anything of a dive. He was totally punched out, very likely could have gotten up before 10, & since the round was almost over, might well have lasted into the 9th. But I do not see how he could have survived the 9th. Ali also both leaned on & pulled him down all night, very wearing. likely made the end come sooner.

Baer just does not the skill of Foreman, though both sluggers with excellent chins. Foreman was also physically stronger, his jab, body attacks, uppercuts...Baer had great natural telent, but though is no stylistic reason why a clearly better fighter Foreman would not win.

George Foreman up until Ali, could be a nasty piece of work, and i wouldnt altogether trust Max's resolve if Foreman comes out and starts manhandling him, on the way up he threw Boone Kirkman to the Canvas to send a message, and he kept Shoving Frazier back, so maybe a strong Ref would be needed, because i think Playboy Max, the Jovial Clown Prince..who was happy to Mock Big Primo, is going to very soon realize this guy is here to hurt him..hurt him bad...
Perhaps it might dawn on him during the ref's instructions when Foreman,.. unblinking.. Glares into his playboy soul...He would know that his man was not here to Trade...to Swap.. .To Exchange....He is here to Destroy....
And that's before a punch is thrown...
