With young George being as good as he was at cutting off the ring, it's not too difficult to imagine the scenario where Tubbs is soon forced against the ropes and beaten to the body viciously in a way that only a Muhammad Ali could stand up to.
Yeah Foremans hands are just 2 heavy in my eyes for him not to brutalize Tony at some point.. I see Foreman catching him inside the first 3 rounds.
That's my inclination as well.. Tubbs probably had the right style to outpoint Foreman in theory. But while having the basic blueprint to beat him, he was still no Ali, Holyfield or Young. Tony was very hittable with a suspect chin and average stamina at best.. His hand speed was quicker than most, but he wasn't very mobile on his feet.. If we take the very worst version of Foreman and place him against the very best Tubbs, then Tony might pull it off. But on an average night for both of them, George would have my vote to win..
Morrison ran his ass off, more so than boxed. Holyfield and Ali both had to pay for their victory by withstanding some pretty hard shots to get the job done - something Tubbs would most likely not do.. Young fought the very worst version of Foreman, who was throwing up in the locker room after the fight and seeing Jesus, yet still admitted to being out on his feet at one point, and was a much more durable man than Tubbs. Now, to some extent I agree with you that George could be beaten by a good technician, but I don't think that just anyone could have done it... It took a truly remarkable fighter to beat George and one that was willing to take a beating in the process..
Don't kid yourself Morrison hit Foreman with some serious bombs. Believe you me. He just never sustained that attack.... wisely so. Foreman did a two and three step move to corner his opponents, and if they escaped these they had the advantage. He was seriously leaden footed and got frustrated when his opponent didn't follow his lead. Tubbs is the ultimate technician in this regard, frustrating guys like Foreman who have entirely transparent intentions. I just feel Tubbs quickness and ability to work angles so well could pay off quickly. Look, I'm not saying I would necessarily bet on a Tubbs. I'm just saying I wouldn't bet at all if a prime Tubbs arrived.
