That type of standard would be in ****ey's favor. he was the faster starter and more dangerous in the early rounds.

I've been here for nearly 10 years and rarely have I ever been called a troll. I gave an opinion. And followed up with it by stating " that I wasn't sure it would necessarily play out that way." Look up the words you're using before you use them.

Lyle was still relatively young when he fought ****ey, so I doubt he was suffering from testosterone deficiency. Serum levels of T drop a little as one enters middle age, but it doesn't just plummet in normal individuals.

Foreman didn't really bring the heat to Lyle like he did to some of his earlier opponents. That version of Foreman wasn't the aggressive, seek-and-destroy Foreman who fought Frazier and Norton and Ali. Instead, he fought more measured and was less aggressive and wild. And Lyle very nearly beat George. In fact, I was more impressed with Lyle than I was with Foreman. Lyle actually had Foreman going backwards several times in the fight, and to me, Lyle looked like the stronger fighter.

Ron said in the post-fight interview after the C00ney fight that he (Lyle) hurt the rib in training and that Gerry reinjured it during the fight. For whatever it's worth, that's what Lyle said.

    Relatively young????

Lyle was nearly 40 fighting for the most part the last bout of his career.

He was a far cry from the Lyle that koed Shavers in the early 70s.

Could be the case. I don't know for certain who'd win prime for prime. Watching Lyle take colossal bombs from Earnie Shavers and come back to actually win that fight makes you think he'd have an excellent chance against C00ney who faded once he blew his load. But he was also inconsistent. less than a year after giving Foreman the fight of his life he struggled like hell to get past Stan Ward and Joe Bugner. To my knowledge he never scored a stoppage over a ranked contender, with the possible exception of Shavers who I'm not so sure was ranked and not especially durable to begin with.. Both C00ney and Lyle are remembered best for their dramatic and galant losing efforts to ATG's and both had very short primes for different reasons... Lyle started very late.. C00ney's career ended young.. Not an easy pick either way.

Yeah, 37 is relatively young; it's definitely not old. It's an age that often gets included as being part of 'young adulthood'; sometimes the cutoff for middle-age is 35, sometimes it's 40. From a physiological standpoint, 37 is still young. PLus, Lyle got a late start in boxing, so he didn't accumulate the same wear and tear that guys like Ali and Frazier and others did. Not arguing that he was at his best against ****ey; but I am arguing that he was not an old person.

Lyle will stop Gerry in about 4 to 5 rounds. Gerry wouldn't know how to deal with a prime live body Ron.
