No Ali was sore for weeks after the Foreman fight no doubt. He was pissing blood. And Ali was a little scared of Foreman too. Ali had said that a glancing blow had him out on his feet but George didnt realize it. Ali has a strong body as well as a rock solid chin. Ali is the only man to beat Prime brutal Foreman. After the first round the look on Ali's face looks concerned. Ali famously asked Cus D'amato tips on fighting George. Cus told him to hit him with the lead right hand early in round one to get his attention. This fight was maybe the most remarkable of Ali's career. Believe me though that every punch George landed hurt bad. And unlike Shavers,Foreman had power in both hands.
Ali knew what he was doing. He was able to deflect and block a lot of Foreman's power shots on the ropes and was showing superior ring generalship at the center of the ring. His granite chin and great punch resistance also helped. Foreman is too sloppy to beat Ali and doesn't win against any version of him before 1975
I watch this fight atleast once or twice a year..7 to 1 or 8 to 1 underdog Ali was comin into that fight..What Ali did was nothing short of a miracle..I dont know what was a bigger upset. This fight or when Buster knocked the **** outa Tyson...
Ali and Foreman 2 all time Greats just that Ali was a touch Greater, who could forget Foreman dismantling another ATG in Frazier,Big George thought he could do the same to Ali,but came unstuck.!!!! Great Footage of Foreman v Frazier fight [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emLve-zzhiw[/ame]
This is true . But only because Angelo Mirena made it possible 4 him by putting ropes 2 large 4d ring so they will b 2 loose 4 it . Otherwise , d ropes would have kept Ali from ducking backwards , and d punches that he took 2 his body would have taken a larger toll on him due 2d ropes absorbing less and resisting Ali's movements more . D ropes were just tight enough 2 help Ali remain upright , but loose enough 2 allow him what he did . Had it not 4 Mirena's criminal actions (as usual) , Cooper would have exposed that chin as far less than granite . Frazier floored him twice , and 4man would have , had it not 4 Mirena . such a genius u r .
Ali was many touches lesser , and is only remembered as gr8er due 2 his , Mirena's and of course others' (locals maybe) cheat . Otherwise , a 4man victory over d fraud himself would have sealed once and 4 all d answer on who was d single most unbeatable heavyweight of their era was . A dehydr8ed 4man fighting Jimmy Young in d San Juan heat only helped 2 solidify d false myth of 4man's "weakness" against "boxers" . Only man whom might have beaten 4man out of d lot of that era , was a younger Ron Lyle whom was unavailable then . Ron Lyle was a waste of ability by sitting in d jail . Of course 4man might have still stopped him even if he was young and prime .
Frazier floored him once? Cooper did once and Sonny Banks also did once and that's it (Wepner standing on Ali's toes don't count). Ali fought all the punchers of the era from lesser knowns like Lamar Clark and Mac Foster, to very well known ones like Liston, Foreman and Shavers (possibly the 3 biggest punchers ever) and he was only stopped once by Holmes when he was not even a shadow of his former self, and he still didn't manage to knock him down or seriously hurt him. Ali's chin was certified granite. The Shavers fight alone proves this.
The Ali-Foreman bout is the one that I'll always have the fondest memories of. Maybe not the best as far as conventional fights go,but I'll always remember waking up the following morning to my Dad telling me "Ali won......He knocked Foreman out in the eighth round" My shout of "YESSSSS" woke my Mum and brother up !
What does this post take away from my post except from d possible correction of my KD count in Frazier vs Ali ? Shavers was a good puncher , but a highly over8ed 1 . Surely not d hardest ever @ d weight . Holmes was a poor puncher so what does him failing 2 KD or seriously hurt Ali proves ? Even Holmes' TKO over a faded Shavers was due 2 Holmes' thumbing of him and then he even failed 2 floor n old Norton so this puts Ali's "sturdiness" against Holmes in its correct perspective . Only reason 2Y Ali was not stopped by Cooper , 4man and probably others was Angelo Mirena , a big criminal , serving as Ali's cornerman . Don King as Ali's promoter might raise a few questions as well . U probably read my threads about Ali's career and d 4man fight , so no need 2 repeat it here .
