Foreman vs Holyfield

Bottom line for me. Holyfield isn't disciplined enough to box smartly, he'll go to war and get stopped.

I think young Foreman has a better chance, but I would probably still go with Holyfield by UD. I cant see Foreman knocking out Holyfield, he was never fast enough.

 

True...Bert Cooper had Meldrick Taylor like speed.

 

Cooper didnt knock out Holyfield, and yes a snappy puncher like Cooper has a better shot, thats why I pick a prime Tyson to do it but not a clubber like Foreman.

 

You think Cooper had a better shot at beating Holyfield than prime Foreman.

Do you think Holyfield would have fought Foreman the same way? Cooper was limited but very powerful. He nailed Holyfield and hurt him against the ropes. I think Holyfield was susceptible to getting hurt by quick punchers and because he showed zero respect for Cooper trying to impress his hometown, he got careless and was hurt.
I never said I favored Cooper, I said I favored a prime Tyson to be the only one to knock out a prime Evander.

 

Not that it matters to anybody here but Ring magazine did a piece on this exact topic back a little while after they fought. They asked plenty of "experts". Anyway, this is what they came up with for the most part...

Holyfield actually stops a younger version of Foreman because Foreman would run out of gas. They felt Foreman was too slow and too easy to hit. They felt he would underestimate Holyfield's durability and try to bomb him out like he did Frazier and Norton. In the end they felt Holyfield would be elusive enough to avoid some of the big shots and durable enough to handle the ones that landed. Holyfield's quickness and conditioning would allow him to keep up a steady workrate and land plenty of shots on Foreman. -Ring magazine, not me

They also felt that at JMW Mike McCallum would have stopped Hearns in the late rounds btw. They had McCallum beating Duran at JMW as well.

"Far and away" are very strong words. To say anyone is "far and away" a better technician than willie pep is ludicrous.
